Jade Buffet Of China — Restaurant in Salmon Arm

We just experienced the worst service we’ve ever come across. This was one of our faves in SA for Chinese. Always our go to. The family/owners staff are always very nice and helpful. We’ve enjoyed them always. The red headed white server?! Wooow. I walk up into the buffet and my 21 month old is at our table and made a short loud noise. He had not screamed or cried once during our dinner and multiple other tables were enjoying interacting with him. This server says out loud as I pass her in the buffet, “UHG take your screaming kid home!” I look at her and said “he’s not screaming and has been pretty good during dinner”. To which she replies as she’s now cashing another customer out, “THANKS TIPS”. I turn back around from where I am getting food and said, “Pardon me?” And she raises her voice and says it again. I walk back to my table and tell everyone we are leaving, and explained to our waitress (owner) what she just said to me and that she’s being extremely rude and yelling out to me in front of the entire busy front end of the restaurant. This woman COMES BACK as I’m tidying up our table to leave, and aggressively says, “I WAS NOT EVEN TALKING ABOUT YOUR KID”. I said, “I am done talking to you”, since she continues causing a scene yapping at us aggressively as everyone is watching. She then replies, “GOOD, YA GOOD!”.

My husband calls the restaurant as we leave, and the response is, “We will have to investigate, she said she wasn’t talking about your kid”. Okay so just to get this clear, my son makes a loud noise (once in our entire meal), and as I’m walking past her she says that? But she didn’t mean our kid? We were the only ones with a little toddler in the restaurant as well. And secondly, this is okay as a server to announce your annoyance to all the customers in the buffet area regardless of who’s kid it was? Then to further clarify, it’s okay to yell at a customer for saying, “my son is not screaming” ?!

This is absolutely insane. We will never return here. And we will make absolute sure everyone we know, knows how disgusting that waitress is, and how it was handled.

Everything about this place was 100% on point! I just moved to the area and this was my first visit. As soon as I walked inside I was greeted with a huge welcome and seated promptly at my table. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting, children were happily making trips back and forth to the dessert table and ice cream machine laughing and giggling. It really felt just like home. I started with won ton soup at the 1st buffet table which also had BBQ ribs, Fried Rice, Noodles, Dry ribs, Beef with broccoli (the classics) . Everything I tasted was hot and fresh , so fresh , and it was delicious! Next I had sweet and sour chicken balls with sauce , spring rolls with plum sauce and french fries, To finish I tried the Honey Won Tons - YOU MUST TRY THIS ITEM IT IS AMAZING!!!!! I also had some banana cream pie , also fantastic, some jello cubes and some fresh fruit. There was an elderly couple that kept bringing more hot and fresh items from the kitchen and they were friendly and sweet. My server was Anna and she was so kind and asked me several times how was everything tasting and she stopped for a few minutes to introduce herself and welcomed me back anytime. Since this restaurant changed hands in mid to late 2022, the food is not as good as it was under previous owners. I used to buy takeout all the time, under the previous owners for several years. Under the new Owners/Management, the food is VERY BLAND and TASTELESS as well as more expensive. The vegetables were half raw ( a few pieces of carrot, 1 piece of broccoli some cabbage-like vegetable). Egg Rolls were definitely not hand made , they obviously came from a box - dried out - tasteless. I will no longer recommend this restaurant and won't be back. Very disappointed. Dinner for one with Chow Mein had no taste and just noodles, no flavour, unless you order the special dishes separately, which might have some flavour. Don't waste your money.
