On the evening of June 30th We arrived at this restaurant at about 10 after 5 there was 2 tables seated already and they seated us instantly so there was no lineup. We were given 5 glasses of water and we were a table of 7 and 2 other glasses were never brought to us around the time that we made our dinner orders my nephew spilt a glass of water when we went up to ask for a cloth or some assistance we were told that we could grab some paper towels out of the bathroom and there was plenty of napkins left at our table so no one offered to help. We placed our food orders and sometime later it all arrived my sister did order an appetizer which came with the main courses also ordered a sauce she never received the sauce she had to ask 4 times for that sauce before she actually received the sauce. when all the dinner plates were served my mom and my nephew had not received theirs yet it was about 10 to 15 minutes after we all received our dinner plates before they received theirs when the plates were dropped they were told that the kitchen was a little busy there was no apology no other explanation. Finally when we were all finished and I might add no one ever came back to our table after our meals were dropped we asked for the bills to the waitress we explained how we were paying my sister was paying for herself for 2 kids and 1 of my nephews I was paying for myself my mother and my other nephew, this had to explained to 2 people before we got our bills. when we received our bills I noticed as my sister was paying that there was a 15% tip already applied to the bill so I informed my sister that the tip was applied as she was just about ready to apply the tip herself of 15% when I asked the waitress or actually this was the owner, so when I asked her why there was a 15% tip already applied she said it was because we were a table of plus 6 No one explain which should have been mentioned to us before we were seated and it was not , she also mentioned that we could have sat in 2 different tables. So later that evening my mother did go put a review in because she wasn't very satisfied with the way she was treated this was her birthday dinner. The owners saw the review and instead of reaching out they decided it would be a better idea for them to go on to their Facebook page and put a post out pretty much lying about the whole situation which then has turned into us looking like we've done something wrong and people are commenting on his posts pretty much bashing us and treating all of us horribly no one actually naming who we are or anything but everybody is making rude comments and it's like harassment they also went to the Salmon Arm observer and a huge article was actually posted as if its headline news that they received a bad review the review which was a 3 out of 5 review my mom did not really say anything too horrible other than we weren't treated as we would have expected in a restaurant where we paid over a 140 for this meal so we do expect decent service. And people post good and bad reviews all the time. It seems very rude and petty to me that the owners would go on to Facebook and the salmon arm observer and make this post. I made a call today to have a conversation the manager and instead of listening to me he interrupted me and them hung up on me. So he dies not seem to care about what I may have to...
Read moreI and my family have eaten at Hanoi 36 probably seventy-five times since they opened. At one point, we were eating there three or four times a week, because we were so excited to see amazing Vietnamese food in Salmon Arm.
They are a family operation, with everyone in the household except their youngest doing their part, and they are all nothing less than consummate professionals in every way. Michael's food is astonishingly good, and he works over a blazing, fiery grill six days a week regardless of the weather. I do not exaggerate when I say that their food is as good or better than any Vietnamese food in Vancouver. His menu is purposefully abbreviated but still has a great variety. The secret family pho broth is incredibly flavourful, the banh mi are made with local artisan buns and grilled meats that have been perfected by years of hard work. My wife orders their grilled pork and spring rolls on rice noodle most of the time we go, and can never finish it; not only is the food great, but with only a few exceptions is generous to the point of gluttony.
Salmon Arm has been very lucky over the last couple of years in getting a number of exciting new restaurants and most have been excellent. We find ourselves coming back to Hanoi 36 over and over again because of the great service and excellent food. Many of our friends agree -- they treat their guests like family, and I am humbled that they have come to Salmon Arm and shared so much of themselves with us.
Have the Mama Yen's pho, anything with grilled pork, and the salad rolls. You'll be glad you did. Then come back and eat the rest of the menu.
While I'm here. Gillian below is whining over the industry-standard mandatory gratuity for groups of 8 or more and the fact that she had to wait a bit longer for her food on both the busiest day of the year and the hottest day in the city's history in the middle of the worst heat wave Canada has ever seen. So her "review" can and should be ignored as the self-entitled...
Read moreIf you want an episode of Gordon Ramsays Kitchen Nightmares and the worst customer service possible, eat here.
I ordered for delivery a pho and 2 big boat crispies. We poured the vegetarian pho and out came a lady bug. Ask yourself: you see a ladybug in your food are you going to eat anything they provide to you? Guaranteed with a ladybug in their kitchen its likely a filthy mess. Ladybugs shells are made of chitin, so any measure of cooking would still have an intact shell. My family could not pallet the pho or the 2 orders of big boat crispies after seeing that. The food was not edible. It went in the trash. I was offered a remake of the pho only. Any normal establishment would atleast offer a refund for part if not all of the food. I ask management: would you eat food that had a ladybug in it?
I won't be eating at your establishment for a very long time if ever again so getting another vegetarian pho or a $25 credit does not make sense especially from a customer service perspective.
It's a public health issue and your establishment should be shut down. I've been emailing them for over a month and they only replied because I left a Google review.
Also of note, whoever I spoke to over the phone about the ladybug stated "people have put things in their food and asked for refunds in the past." I thought I would let you know because that is one of the strangest things...
