I got married here this past June, and if I was just ranking the Prestige's Venue coordinator on her own, boom 5 stars. However, there are certain aspects of the hotel that put a bit of a damper on our evening...well just one aspect!
The hotel itself is beautiful, with large, clean rooms and a waterfront view to die for! it has an indoor to outdoor pool which is a neat feature! The front desk staff are amazing! they were able to remember names and preferences of almost all of my guests (all 120 of them!) and made dinner recommendations and reservations!
The wedding venue was amazing, with the ceremony space looking out into the water (photo attached) and the ballroom grand and welcoming. The wedding buffet left my guests raving about the food, the prime rib was divine! And especially considering the cost of everything, a very affordable venue!
Crystal, the venue coordinator is a gift from the angels, I cannot stress this enough! She is helpful beyond expectations, always on your side and full of tips/tricks to help you get through this special but busy/overwhelming day, and she has the best sense of humor! I'm pretty sure she even made the rain stop, so I could have my outdoor ceremony! She is worth 5 stars easy!!!
Now here comes the crappy part, where they lost a star (it probably would have been more but the rest of my wedding was flawless!!): I had confirmed over email with Crystal, 2 weeks in advance of my wedding, that we could tear down the ballroom the morning after my wedding, not the night of. So 12:45AM rolls around, with the party scheduled to end at 1AM. We've sent all of the Bridal party and most of our guests off to bed (safe in the knowledge that clean up was a tomorrow problem). It was myself (the bride), my new husband, my parents (both in their 60's), one drunk groomsmen and 2-3 guests. One of the staff (who we later learned was the catering manager) approached my father and told him we had to tear down the room before 1AM. My father passed the message along to me, which I dismissed as I had the email saying nope, tear down was the next morning. Then she approached my husband and I, told us we had to tear down. I said no, I have written confirmation that I have the ballroom until noon tomorrow. She proceeds to tell me that no, I don't; as she has an event early the next morning they need to set up for. She told me that whatever I had been told was between me and the venue coordinator (who had rightfully gone home, as its was after midnight!) and it had nothing to do with her! They work for the same hotel?!! She eventually told us we could just move everything onto one side of the room so they could close the wall. I had 15 tables, plus the giant head table and a GIANT cumbersome 8ft tall, 100lb+ backdrop that I was expected to move with my 60 year old parents and a few drunk guests...ON MY WEDDING NIGHT!!! If they had mentioned this any time during the day or earlier in the night, I would have kept some strapping lads around to help, but I sent them all to bed secure in my WRITTEN communication that I had the ballroom until the next morning. So needless to say, not impressed with the end of the night, the timing and delivery were poorly handled. Thank god I found some friends in the hotel lobby who were able to help! And the best part, we stopped in to check on this event happening the next morning and pack up our leftover room...and the ballroom was empty!
Sorry for the long review, but the end of my Wedding night really ticked me off. It had taken what was an almost perfect experience and really put a damper on our mood as a newly married couple. Instead of heading to the honeymoon suite jubilant and excited, we were pissed off and not a little bitter!
I'd still recommend the Prestige as a venue to get married in, mostly because of Crystal, but I would caution you about tear down, make sure you have lots of people around at the end...
Read moreI was in was a "Canadiana" themed 'designer suite' on the third floor. It made a pleasing impression when I first opened the door, and though I ended up not being able to take advantage of the hot-tub this trip, I appreciated the large, well-appointed bathroom. The bed was comfortable, but here's where things start to go somewhat 'sideways'. Because of where/how the bed is positioned, its impossible to open the left-hand side cabinet door to the television. Numerous channels on the tv were inaccessible, even though they were common ones (like the 'History' channel, and others). Several lamps/lights in the room had nowhere to plug in, and were thus unusable. There was an unfortunate shortage of options for breakfast in the room-service menu, so I didn't bother ordering anything for the morning of the day I checked out as I'd hoped to do. During the writer's festival (the reason for my stay) I found the meeting/conference rooms to be too warm for the time of year - something many other attendees found unpleasant also. It wasn't until late in the day on Sunday that a staff-member made an adjustment, and turned on the A/C in the last room/last class I and others attended. The buffet meals were reasonably good; this said, I was disappointed in the deserts being store-bought, rather than your chef and his staff making something regional, delightful, and not sickeningly sweet, (as most store-bought deserts typically are). I hope some adjustments can be made at the hotel prior to the writer's festival for next year. I'm contemplating staying up the hill at the Comfort Inn, or perhaps in a local B&B next year as I'm somewhat concerned little will improve between now and then. I'll look forward to being pleasantly surprised. Thank you for providing the opportunity to offer constructive...
Read moreNot really worth it, restaurant is very lacking there's a total of about 2 dishes with no meat other than a salad and the food was your generic bar food, no continental breakfast offered. When we first arrived on the screen door on our balcony was off the track and we could not get it on, it took 2 days for this to be fixed and then fell off the track again. Also because the building in right by the lake it has shifted over the years so they had to relevel it, this resulted in a one inch gap from the floor to the screen door anyways essentially making it useless as we still encountered bugs crawling under with no effort. The elevator is also one of the slowest I've used in a while, but i like walking so this personally did not bother me. While the staff was fairly friendly that was about the only good thing other than the complementary ear plugs given. The room layout is not bad and most seem to have a mini fridge local cable TV on a wall mounted flat screen, as well as a microwave. The bed was OK at best and the pillows were absolutely horrid, one softer than a marshmallow offering no support and the other was stiffer than a rock. Also during our stay our internet kept going out which was quite bothersome, the internet speeds were also quite disappointing as watching a video on my current gen phone on low quality resulted in buffering every 5 minutes, sometimes freezing all together. Overall its location in town is great though as its right by the pier and about a 5 - 10 minute walk to downtown. Considering everything I believe it to be overpriced, despite the location. However, we did have a couple incidents at the hotel and the manager Sebastian is a very professional guy who was very accommodating for us and really made our trip a lot better, he is a great guy and talk to...
