I hate to say it but we were extremely disappointed on this visit to your bakery. We have fond memories from our subsequent visits each summer over 20 years with our children. Saltspring Island and Embe apple cream turnovers were permanently linked.When we said we were going to the apple festival this year our now adult children asked us to please bring home some apple cream turnovers. So we made sure to order them 3 days in advance to be picked up before catching the ferry home and made a date to get together with our sons to enjoy them.Your apple cream turnovers were once exquisite, generous apple filling covered with sweetened whipped cream within a sugar crisp pastry. This is what we were all looking forward to, the turnovers and revisiting all the summer memories that came with them. When we opened the box for our treat we found that they had vego whip, not cream and the apple filling was so minimal there was no apple taste. The pastry was lovely the rest was deeply...

This bakery was bustling with customers yet the line of mostly locals moved quickly. There were a lot of regulars. One girl loved the “gluten free brownie”. A woman volunteered her family always got the “butter tarts”. But the lady behind the counter said the “Copenhagen” pastry was popular and the “choc dipped peanut butter cookie” too. So I got one of each of those two to try & brought them back to the boat to share. The cookie was soft with a few chopped nuts, just salty enough w/a nice dark chocolate dip. My favorite though, was that pastry! Inside 2” of flaky buttery layers was a surprise of Bavarian cream, a few currents or raisins, almond paste? The whole thing was amazing. This bakery is an absolute gem! From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by an incredible atmosphere that exudes warmth and charm. The staff is not only friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable about their products, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. And let's talk about the prices - they're incredibly reasonable considering the quality of the items sold. We sampled a couple of sandwiches for lunch, and they were absolutely divine. The bread, in particular, was so delicious, it was like a slice of heaven. And don't even get me started on their donuts and cookies - they're simply outstanding!
