Wife and I are staying across the street from Mobys as a Valentines weekend away. We can see Mobys from our room, so we checked out the online menu. My wife had the Yam Tempura which she enjoyed, fried yams were quite greasy however. We shared a portion of onion rings which were good, (hard to mess up onion rings). My meal. Wow. I ordered the Saturday "special", 18hr Smoked Brisket with fries and coleslaw. I'm a huge fan of brisket, smoke my own, have been for years. I've eaten it across Canada and the US. Of all of the places I've eaten brisket in the past 15 years, I've never had brisket like this...

First bite hit me with a flavour that should never be paired with a meat like brisket, chipolte. Figured the sauce was going to be chipolte based, not chipolte straight up out of a bottle, and bland. Ok, I'll get past that. The texture of the brisket was like a mouth full of mashed potatoes. Absolute mush. Usually freezing and thawing and microwaving causes this type of texture. Felt like pulling a Gordon Ramsay and spitting it right back out. Disgusting. I never took another bite, if I did I would have needed a spoon. At least there was only 2 tiny pieces to throw away, (very small portion of "brisket". The coleslaw was just shredded cabbage with no dressing, so that remained with the brisket. Fries were good! But like the onion rings, how could anyone screw up fries?

For take out, was a disappointment. No utensils to eat our food with, no napkins for the greasy fingers because of no utensils, and a meal that should have been good, ended up in the trash....

We had the chance to visit Salt Spring over the long weekend and we ate at Moby's every evening during our stay. Do yourself a favor and stop by here. You won't be disappointed. 1st night we shared the Duck Wings - OMG!!! That sauce!! So tasty and the wings so meaty!! We would go back another weekend just for them. We also each had the salmon dinner with roasted potatoes. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 2nd night we shared the Turbo wings and again OMG!! That sauce!!! Pork bites were delicious, very meaty, very flavorful. We felt that the Caesar salad could have used a bit more dressing - for our tastes. But the romaine & croutons were crunchy and fresh. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 3rd night we had the Seafood Chowder - SO YUMMY!! It was the perfect consistency...not too thick, not watery, loaded with seafood and so flavorful. We also had the mini Yorkies - stuffed with plentiful and tender beef and tasty gravy and perfectly baked little Yorkshire puddings. We shared the mixed greens salad but swapped out chicken for the salmon. It had fresh pear slices, feta, tomatoes, gr.onions and a fabulous vinaigrette dressing. Fantastic!! We topped this one off with the chocolate cake (to die for) which was very light and delish as well. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Dale & Susan and all their team are so warm and inviting and so much fun!! We can't wait to come back. You...

The atmosphere was fun with a beautiful view. A pool table and juke box for entertainment. The night we were there a live band played. The food was decent. What you would expect for pub food. Here is where I have an issue. My wife ordered the steak and mash with seasonal vegetables. It was $10 more expensive than anything else on the menu. But she really loves great mashef potatoes and a steak. And these mashed were supposed to be really good. The steak was supposed to be cooked medium done. When the food arrived she received a well done steak with fries and a small chunk of bok choy. The waitress said they ran out of mashed. She never gave us the chance to change the order and the steak was way overdone. My wife told the waitress she was disappointed but she was not rude about it. We finished our meal, watched the band for a while, had some drinks and left. There was four of us in our party and the bill was just over $200. We were never offered a discount for the change in order or any other compensation. I understand, it's an island, they run out of stuff, no problem. But we should have been given a chance to change the order or compensated. Especially for a significant change like that. It felt like we ordered a rib eye steak and...

On my 4th visit to this establishment they were actually open during their posted business hours and I had the opportunity to enter. The kitchen was closed but I noted a number of tasty menu options and some drink concoctions to try at a later date. The bartender was friendly, courteous, aware of the local surroundings and other topics that made for good conversation. I liked the atmosphere so much that I returned the following day and ordered a pretty fabulous 2-pc Fish n' chips (thoroughly enjoyed the tarter sauce also). I'd recommend the shaken lime margarita on the rocks, it's pretty tasty and so was the pint of local cider on tap... they have a number of local drink options if you're feeling adventurous. Previously rated the establishment 2/5 and left feedback advising to update business hours which can save potential customers from wasted time and effort if the Pub closes prior to posted hours. I'm happy to know this place.

I do love Moby’s, it’s a pub on the waterfront with views across the harbour, what’s not to love? But… the food is lack lustre at best. Not to preach Gordon Ramsay but, cut the menu down there is just far too many options and none of them done particularly well. I will say I’m veggie so maybe disregard if you want but the veggie burger is a dry sandy mess of a thing (there’s a zillion meat alternatives - keep it simple everyone loves a cheese burger), not to mention that chef refuses to switch out most of the meat dishes for tofu. Not sure what he’s got against veggie/vegans but he thinks he knows best. The servers are amongst the best on the island, constantly hard working, communicative and friendly. Even they steer folks away from the number of bad options. Wish I had more positive to say because i’d like to spend more time there but until they sort the menu it’s a one and done kind of visit.
