It had been years since I've visited Charlie's. I used to stop in often. We went in with the sole intent of stocking up on our seafood favourites and grab some sushi to munch on for a quick dinner. We were a bit disappointed.
The only whole lobster we found was in the form of a handful of bags in a freezer, priced fairly high and some were a bit freezer burned in their bags. The snow and king crab legs were all frozen and higher priced than other places that carry them. I would say the prices of scallops and shrimp prices are on par with other places with a few varieties/sizes being a tad more costly.
The maki and nigiri we chose were fresh and flavourful and the oysters we purchased to eat later were also fresh and quite tasty... but it wasn't enough to make us want to go back.
One thing about this place is that they carry some items you can't find anywhere else but we can get many of the more common items at other places for better prices. Does the quality compare? Charlie's has always offered high quality items but when almost everything is frozen like all other stores, it's hard to tell if the quality is higher or the same.
