I limit my visits to Five Guys to two or three times a year. The alternative would be looking like five guys... in one body! One warning up front: if you or someone in your party has a peanut allergy DO NOT GO! The fries are done in peanut oil and there are open boxes of free peanuts in several places in the store.
The building is nondescript and the interior is heavy on white and red subway tiles but you aren't there for decor, you're there for food. The menu is deceptively simple - hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, a few types of sandwiches (including a couple of veggie options if you absolutely insist) , and to wash it down, pop. You get to choose the toppings for your meal.
The hot dogs quite frankly aren't too my taste, but that's because the split the wiener almost in half. Still the choice of toppings means you can create a rough approximation of a Chicago style dog, which is a very good thing. The hamburgers are the real star. The parties seem a bit thicker than what you find at the Big Three fast food chains, and they're well cooked with a bit of a char on them. The choice of free toppings let's you get your burger exactly how you want it. In my case that means skipping the lettuce and tomato. I also recommend some sort of sauce. The standard burger - or cheeseburger or cheeseburger with bacon - features two patties while the Little version has a single pattie.
Second only to the burgers are the fries. Cut from unpealed potatoes and fried in peanut oil. Delicious. I haven't had the Cajun fries yet but the regular fries are amazing. And there's a LOT of them. If you're eating alone get the Little Fries or you'll be throwing something out. The Fries nominally come in a small cup...and then overflow into your bag. The regular order of fries come in a larger cup...and fill more of you bag to the point where you may have to search for your burger buried under them. Certainly enough for two people.
There are a few criticisms. The parking space around the restaurant, which is shared with an Asian take out place, is clearly inadequate for the amount of traffic the place gets and the adjacent parking lot is exclusively for patrons of Mano's. The other thing is that the only choices of beverage are bottled water and various Coke products. Checking the corporate Five Guys website indicates that in the US at least they also offer "hand spun" vanilla milk shakes with a variety of add-ins. Unfortunately not available here. Still, these problems aren't enough to knock this review down...
Read moreFive Guys makes great burgers exactly the way you want them! The caveat is that you must like thin patties of beef, which I do. That style of cooking is different from the thick/flame-grilled style at other "premium" fast food places, and you are paying more for these burgers than you would at the McFood place down the street. Having said that, the amount of available toppings is great, and the fact that you get to tell them exactly what you want on your bun (or in the bowl or in the lettuce wrap if you're not eating bread) is a major reason to eat here. The fries too are awesome, and the company has a policy of filling your fry container, and then putting more in the bag, so great value on those. I'm partial to the Cajun seasoning as well (not spicy). The limited menu at 5 Guys may be a turn off for some, but I like the fact that they focus on doing a few things well. You can get burgers, hot dogs, and a couple varieties of sandwiches for mains, fries for the side, and there's fountain drinks or shakes. That's about it. If you want a more diverse menu go somewhere else, but if you want a decent burger, go here! One thing to note: those with peanut allergies can avoid 5 Guys. There are peanuts Free in-store,and they...
Read moreDear Five Guys Customer Service,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to reach out regarding a disappointing experience with an order I placed recently. While I’ve typically had great experiences with your food, this one was unfortunately far from what I’ve come to expect.
On Oct 3 2024, I ordered three Little Bacon Cheeseburgers, fries, and shakes from your Saskatoon 8th street location However, when I got home, I found that each burger was incorrect, with the toppings being completely wrong. Additionally, the buns and patties were stone cold, making for a really unpleasant meal. Given that it was late and we were too hungry, we ate what we could but were really disappointed by the overall quality.
I understand that mistakes happen, but for a $70 order, I had hoped for much better. I wanted to bring this to your attention in hopes that it can be addressed moving forward.
I would appreciate any steps you could take to rectify this situation, whether that be a refund, a credit, or another resolution. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to...
