The employees were so RUDE. I left over the food a little bit, and they didn't mention anything about the left over will be charged before we ate. It was fine that we paid that since it was true that we left over some food. However, their service was awful. When I was ready to pay, there were lots of people waiting, then one of the employees yelled to me that 'you left over the food, and you can't hide it. We can still find out even though you hide them. Don't do that next time.' Well, I DID NOT hide them for sure. I thought we could leave some food over on, since they never mentioned it. It wasn't that much, either. Just 5-6 pieces of sashimi and a little bit of stir-fried vegetable. My family really loved to eat at new sushi island before. But after this situation, I will NEVER visit again. They were so rude. Why did they want to yell at me like that? Isn't it over when I pay? Why do they yell at people, embarrass the customer, and provide rude service? I was actually going to pay the tip, but the employees were too rude at the end, so I did not pay the tip at all. I can't visit there again unless they are fired. Two employees were being super rude. One was a Canadian employee. There was only one Canadian. The rest of her were all chinese. Then the other employee was the one who was taking care of the POS system and getting the bills for the customers. She was wearing glasses. It was a really unpleasant experience. I don't want to eat there anymore while being treated like that. You guys lost the...

This is the worst sushi I've had; hands down... And I didn't order anything that complicated. Maybe I have higher expectations coming from the west coast, but this was unacceptable (Even for the prairies)

The California roll was just chunks of surimi and cucumber sticks, not broken up at all or mixed with kewpie-- Just a dry chunk of surimi with a cucumber chunk the size of my pinky.

Then the dynamite roll was the only thing that was remotely edible; although prawn was obviously cooked while in advance, so the tempora batter was mushy. They attempted to mask this by rolling in some fresh panko, but It was obviously not a fresh piece of tempura.

Most alarming: I accidentally ordered a roll with salmon sashimi in it (BC roll usually has barbecued salmon skin.) I usually like to check and place out before I order anything raw there, and this place reinforced for me why I do this . I thought I got the wrong order because At first I thought it was tuna. It was a grayish pink color and it had the same texter and smell as tuna, but they assured it was salmon-- So I broke the roll open to see they we're sadly correct. It was salmon... Gray, mushy, smelly, salmon.

I don't know why people go here, maybe they have good teriyaki, but I'd avoid this place...

Messed up our reservation, it was never made at all. Thankfully they had a table available for us. Wait staff was extremely rude and short with us afterwards. Service was slow, and we had to wave multiple times get get servers to our table to order food for the first round. This wouldn't be an issue if they were busy, but tables all around us were being waited on regularly, we were getting outright ignored.

When the food finally came, they were missing a bunch of stuff. Fine, we will re-order on the second round we thought. For the second round they took our filled out menu and never came back with any food. When we asked about where our food was they said we never filled out a second order. When we asked for a menu again they said we couldn't.

It seemed like we had some how made the wait staff angry at us for some reason because the servers were slamming the food down on our table when serving us.

I've been going to New Island for years and the quality was always mediocre, but I've put up with it due to lack of options in the city and because the wait staff is usually very friendly. I'm done with New Island after this experience. Permanently lost a customer of over a...

Great Japanese restaurant that offers both AYCE and à la carte options. I went for AYCE, and given the price, I was satisfied with the selection and quality of the food. Aside from rolls, there was a good variety of sashimi and other items. The mango salad was really good, and they have a large assortment of tempura options. For dessert, I would recommend the fried milk and fried banana. The only downside was the strange wait upon arrival, even though there were empty tables; but once the servers came, they were all nice. There was one female server in particular whom I would like to compliment; she took her time explaning to us how the system worked and checked in with us during the meal. Definitely a higher level of service than what I would expect at an AYCE/buffet place. Kudos to her!

Ordered take away. 2 sushi spring one California roll. Half the order was left out. Staff called as we were half way to Hague on hwy 11. Drove back in to get the rest of my paid for order. Received a 5$ off coupon for “ next time”. In the container was also a vile banana roll. I had no clue what it was as I bit into it. No one wants an old over ripe banana rolled in rice. It became compost. What a terrible texture and flavor. I’ve never heard of anyone actually ordering this mess.

Was kind of disappointed, been here several times before when we used to live in Saskatoon. I was in town for a function and went for dinner on Friday. They were very busy (so I am glad they are busy) but it almost seemed like the kitchen didn't anticipate the flow of people. The sushi rice was warm and all pieces were rolled very losely so they just fell apart (which I get they are busy and trying to turn tables fast but it was disappointing as I know this isn't what I have had here before).
