I took my husband to Whiskey Jacks for lunch today. It was his first visit. The business is still under construction, but also still open for business. I ordered the Chicken Parm with mushroom sauce. The other order was the French Dip. On staff was one young woman who was doing her best to keep up with the bar, the tables, the VLTs, people paying bills, restocking the fridges and having to work around a cumbersome bar layout that did not allow her to make the shortest number of steps to accomplish her jobs. Even though there were approximately a dozen people or more there, this waitress kept her cool. She smiled and graciously asked us how the food was, how we were doing and generally being a real trooper. Now, I left very satisfied and literally smiling with how delicious the food was and the care of the service. We did have to ask for our bill and a container by going to the bar counter, but given that we only saw one server, this did not bother us a whole lot and the server apologized for not noticing as she was below the bar counter level restocking the fridges. The 4 star relates to the lack of help (a manager on staff should be out on the floor) for the server. It relates to the French Dip that was tasty, but was thin on beef. I personally was so happy with my chicken meal as it was the tastiest I had had in a long time in this town and given that it was served in this little neighbourhood bar was awesome. Great job to the chef/cook. The pasta was cooked well, the mushroom sauce tasted scratch made. The parmesan/breaded coating on the chicken breast tasted scratch made and appeared as such. The caesar salad side I had had small scratch made croutons and real bacon and I got a slice of lemon on top. Amazing. So, given the previous reviews I have seen, it is a mixed bag. I have never been disappointed with lunch in the few times that I have been in this bar and grill. So, give this place a shot and keep coming in while they make the changes that look very...
Read more· 6 minutes ago Been coming to this place for years ever since i was bar age and WAS one of my favorite places to go. Recently went their for St. Patricks day with my mother, food was good service was good. They had bagpipers and Irish dancers. great show. Then it came time to pay the tab and leave so i paid at the bar. as we were leaving a server came up to us and gave another bill that she said we had to pay.. we tried to explain that we had already paid the tab at the bar but instead of going to the bartender to clear things up the server stood there and argued with my mother. So i went to the bartender to try to clear things up just to have to bartender start yelling at me. Very rude and unprofessional i was shocked and insulted. The only person who showed any kind of professionalism was the manager and by the time he came to address the issue it was to late i was upset and my mother was very angry. They then bar us from the establishment and refused to cash out my mothers VLT tickets. I had to get a friend to go later on and do it for us. Been a regular patron of that place for years i'm hurt at they way they treated my mother and I. Even if they let us back in i don't think i'd ever set foot in that place again i...
Read moreI have never reviewed a restaurant before, but this experience, without a doubt, has set a new low for industry standards.
Background: I travel fairly often and eat out at your average Boston pizza/Original Joe's style restaurants and neighbourhood pubs.
This night, Monday, I ordered a Cajun Burger (special) with the soup of the day. Chicken Noodle. The soup was a luke warm pile of noodles (that seemed to have absorbed all the soup)? The burger was about the equivalent of a burger prepared at an outside BBQ kid's soccer fundraiser. Maybe 5-6oz, not 7oz. 14.50$ (regular price 18$)
The bartender sat on his phone the entire time as far away from the front as possible. Negative social skills. Attempts at conversations about sports, the restaurant industry or current topics just resulted in quick dead-end sentences and back to his phone. So I just sat in silence, looking at the empty real estate and wondered how my food was going to be, since I was completely alone in the restaurant. I am a relatively good looking guy, not gay or anything. I could talk to a wall for free and have a better experience
I would have rather bought a papa burger at A&W for 11$ and remained blissfully unaware of the establishment's...
