TLDR: I REALLY WANT TO GIVE 0 STARS. RACISM IS ALIVE AND WELL, PIZZA CAN BE USED AS A WEAPON AS ITS ROCK HARD, LONG WAIT TIME - DONT BOTHER IF YOURE STARVING.
We found this town by mistake. My sister and I were wanting bubbletea and ended up being directed here by Google maps. We were initially staying at Port Elgin. We initially liked this cute and quaint town, so we decided to do a pitstop before heading back home. We decided to eat at this restaurant as it had a .1 higher review than duffys and the other restaurant we would have eaten at was closed.
We ordered chicken wings and pepperoni pizza which took a very long time to get to our table. Pizza was overcooked, and very hard. Pizza sauce wasnt the best tasting, pepperoni wasnt that great. Wings were overdone, but not too bad to eat.
While we were eating, we were asked by the manager (old blond lady with glasses) if our payment went through. The way this restaurant was set up was that you pay at the front first and you sit wherever. It obviously did if we received an "approved" receipt. This lady insisted that we look at our bank account and made sure it wasn't cancelled. IF WE HAD A COPY OF THE APPROVED RECEIPT, HOW COULD IT HAVE BEEN CANCELLED? so I answered the lady and said yes, it went through and that it is showing in my bank statement and that I had the approved receipt to prove it.
I was the only Asian/pacific islander in the restaurant, aside from my kids who are half Italians. I was the only one who was questioned about payment, loudly, in front of all the other customers in the restaurant. VERY EMBARASSING. The old lady made it seem like it was because it was another lady that took my order so she wasn't sure if it went through. However, the younger blonde lady that took my order also took at least 3 or 4 more orders ahead and after me. These people were all white and were not questioned if their payments actually went through.
My sister also ordered wings, which again took forever to come. Her order was mistakenly taken to a different table that the owner/worker seemed to be friends with. We saw my sisters order going around the restaurant cuz the waiter/kid that had it didn't know who placed the order. So he gave it to the wrong table - this would have been understandable. However, one of the older guys (maybe the owner?) Knew of the mistake as we overheard him say this to the people that had our order and he did not even think of apologizing to the right table (us) as soon as he found out or reducing the price or giving it to us for free which other better restaurants would have done. Instead, we were made to wait for the new order when we have already been waiting for so long. In the end, we ended up taking the order to go and they apologized and gave us a can of rootbeer.
Not a good experience, nice to see the town once but don't think I'd come back. I'll let people know of the racism in this place too as it's clearly alive and well in this town. Go to Port Elgin instead, nicer local people.
This restaurant should respect all paying customers. Especially people who are not local. Thats the reason your restaurant is still up and running. We pay...
Read moreJust had a surprising dinner at Outlaw in Southampton, our first visit to the restaurant. First impressions were good, an English style pub, where you order at the bar and the food is delivered to your table. We ordered drinks, Onion Rings, Wings and a Pizza, obviously too much food, be hey leftovers to take home. Sitting in a quite corner, the Onion Rings were brought out, first warning the food is served as it is ready, no attempt to coordinate delivery of the food together. The Rings were good. Wings were delivered next, the wings were over cooked, dry and leathery, in short the worst wings I have ever been served, just garbage. The server brought the pizza and we asked him to take the wings, away, he offered to remake them, to which we responded, no thanks they are garbage, please just take them away. Note, we didn’t ask for money back or any other compensation, just simply didn’t want the scrawny wings. (no big deal) There we were enjoying our pizza, talking about how tasty it was and how we were enjoying the drinks, it was our date night. Then the barmaid (note I use barmaid as per the Collins dictionary, “A barmaid is a woman who serves drinks behind a bar. [mainly British] regional note.”), comes over and states you “called our wings garbage”? Yes, they were dry leathery, simply fit for the garbage. The Barmaid then proceeds to argue, telling us that we can’t call her food garbage. My response, yes as the customer, I can call them garbage as I used to run a restaurant and I know what garbage food is. The Barmaid then proceeds to tell me that they are “Brazilian grade chicken wings”. I guess my question here is, why is a Canadian restaurant serving Brazilian chicken wings, what wrong with good old locally grown Canadian wings? The barmaid then proceeds to ask me where I am from, I didn’t respond, but I did say I can guess where you are from. At that point we asked for a takeout box and took the remainder of the pizza home. So, if you want poor wings and to be questioned about your opinion as a customer and to be verbally accosted by the barmaid then go to Outlaws. Too bad we tipped when we paid for the meal upfront. If you want decent pizza, try the Southampton Mini Mart it is excellent, if you are looking for great service and great food try 797 in Southampton, The Berkshire in Port Elgin, or Allan’s Fireside in Port Elgin. Seriously, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a decent meal, unless you like being abused as a customer by...

We planned a tour of Ontario with my parents-in- law from Saskatchewan. My brother has a summer house here and his mother in law lives it full time in Southampton We planned on showing them this special place and booked in at the newly renovated Beach Motel. Our first night was Sunday, last night, and unknowingly didn't know most restaurants are closed for dinner. We walk up the strip and landed on the Outlaw. When we got there the host asked for our order and a credit card and to hold for a tab, which we didn't. I've never been asked this before and just went ahead. We had a nice time on the patio and by chance met old school friends we hadn't seen in over 30 years. As we left, we got our card back and went on our way. Walking back to the motel, a large pickup truck speed up to the side of us and man jumped out frantically. We were all stunned and taken back. He said we hadn't paid the bill and had dined and dashed. We assumed it was taken care of as they had our card and the staff gave it back? We apologized for the misunderstanding and handed over a card on the the spot but he said he couldn't take it and that we had to come back to the restaurant .We asked to go with in his truck but he refused, something about it being a liability, which it isn't, part of the larger party we're with is a Lawyer. When we got the the restaurant the staff said they were sorry and we could tell they were embarrassed for us. We paid the bill and asked to speak with the manager, which turned out to be him. Our conversation got heated and I admittingly raised my voice. On our way out I said we would never be back and he said "oh yes you will". How arrogant of him
To summarize, the outlaw had our credit card for over an hour, and thinking more about it more could have tapped a hundred times under a $100 before a pin would be required, but that's something that wouldn't normally crossed my mind. We're in our 50's and our parents in their 70's. Its not like we ran down the street like teenagers trying to get away with a free meal. It was an innocent mistake which the staff should have pointed out as we left. The manager should have calmly pulled over and explained that there was a discrepancy with the bill and ask us to come back.
Speaking with other guest at the motel, it's sounding like the manager is also the owner. Terrible...
