As a lifelong resident of Ontario, I'd say my favourite beach of all time is Southampton. There's something magical about Lake Huron, and every time I visit Southampton, which I do every summer if possible, I suddenly feel much more relaxed, and I am generally put at ease in a way that no other place in the world does. It's rather uncanny. I used to frequent Sauble Beach, but in recent years, the massive crowds and loss of some of the past places I liked to go. It used to be so chill, now it's just a nuthouse. Southampon, on the other hand, while it gets very busy at times, never has the crazy throngs I've seen at Sauble. In any case, I love Southampton and recommend it to anyone exploring Ontario's beaches. I feel like it's a place that Ontarians can go and enjoy what life is really all about. You can tell by some of the pictures people have posted that it is absolutely gorgeous. Never change!

A nice quiet sandy beach stretching for several miles. The Southampton beach is a great place for families or date nights and even weddings. Stretching approximately 4 kms long, you will hear the gulls soaring above and the waves hitting the shoreline. Although the beach itself is sandy, the water bottom ranges from pebbly to rocky to sandy. Water shoes are recommended for the rocky sections. The water deepens quickly near the giant Canadian flag gracing the Southampton shoreline, so it is best that children and those who are not strong swimmers head to the "South Beach". - Copied from Southhampton website. We had a great time there with our family of 6 with 4 young children plus two more adults. Beautiful sunsets! Sometimes live music playing .

I'm not sure what folks mean when they say it's a nice sandy beach. Yes there is sand on the beach but the shore lines have lots of rocks and it drops off really fast into even more rocks. I really don't recommend this beach for anyone who wants to go in the water. It is very very rocky all the way in with no sand in sight. Go here if you just want to lie around on the sandy part. But getting into the water is pretty much pointless. This is not a good beach for families and children who want to get wet. The facilities are nicely developed and maintained, but this is not a beach where you can access the...
