The restaurant is classy, candle on the table, elegant, and European elegance. Atmosphere has a hint of smokiness due some dishes on the menu. I try to be as fair as possible so it helps others looking for food around the city, depending on expectations based on price
In terms of the food:
Boar cheeks 4pc $16 - it wasn’t too gamy, salty in taste. Tender but not overly flavourful besides this salty red wine taste. The crispy onion barely adds to the dish but adds some crunch.
House cure beef $18 - this dish comes with a savory horseradish light mayo-like spread, which adds a lot more savouriness to an otherwise drier dish. The bread was crunchy and oiled slightly with a hint of smokiness which complements the salty/sweet ham quite well. The texture of the ham was VERY soft while the bread was slightly smoky/crunchy on the outside and soft fluffy inside. Along with the savoury spread, this entire dish becomes balanced combination. Overall, this was a well balanced dish of textures, very well crafted.
Jamin Serrano $12 - we like the house cure ham better. It was slightly salty but tastes nothing too special. The ham itself was also a bit drier/flakier in texture than the house cured beef. It’s almost prosciutto like.
Grill Spanish octopus $22 - this dish was extremely tender and slightly smoky. However portion sizes were quite small. The entire portion can fit in the palm of my hand. The octopus barely needs any chewing before swallowing. Overall this dish was satisfyingly delicious
Seafood paella for 2 persons costs $68 ($38 for one person): the rice was slightly spicy with a texture that seems like is wasn’t completely cooked through, does have a very very slight hard bite near the centre of each grain. Some squid were slightly overcooked while others were cooked to perfection, same as for the shrimp. The shrimp can be a bit rubbery. We like the texture of risotto better. The portion size look big but the plate is wide, but not deep. You don’t get a lot even though the plate looks big.
Lobster risotto $38 - unfortunately the lobster bits were very overcooked, making it rubbery, tough, and bitter tasting. The risotto itself is cheesy, rich and creamy. The green onion and tomato add a bit more freshness to the dish. But overall disappointed by the main star of the dish.
In terms of value of your money/portion size: For $50 a person, you might not get full depending on how much you can eat. To put it in perspective - we could still eat a Jr. Chicken meal at McDonald’s just to be very full for a complete dinner meal.
Servers are attentive and are very nice.
In terms of my recommendations: get the grilled Spanish octopus & house cured beef. They were very delicious. Avoid the lobster risotto & seafood paella. Set your expectations lower for Jamon Serrano...
Read moreWe had ordered New Years Eve dinner before from the Sabor location and while looking online at the Sherwood Park Bodegas location noticed they had the same menu.
I phoned and ordered the Meat Platter and the Seafood Platter off the Bodegas menu told the person what I wanted and they said it would be ready at 4:00 PM.
I sent my husband to pick it up and he comes home with enough food for 4 people, how disappointing we have been looking forward to this meal for a week.
So I call the restaurant said you gave us the wrong order! He said oh were you ordering off the Bodegas online menu, well yes I was where else would I order off?
He said oh ya that’s wrong! So I place my order at 12:00 PM the person taking the order does not ask or tell me that they don’t have those platters and we assume everything is well.
So the gentleman I spoke to on the phone said he was sorry for ruining our dinner but there was nothing he could do and gave me the Sabour email address.
I am super embarrassed I was bragging to all my guests what a wonderful meal experience we were going to have.
So we shared amongst 8 of us the little bit that was there.I am upset that our New Years dinner was such a bust, $200.00 for a few bites each.
I have emailed the restaurant twice before I posted this and nobody...
Read moreWas so excited to try things out here and decided to not eat much before going. Arrived really hungry and we ordered the boar cheeks, pork belly and calamari to start. The calamari was pretty tasty, the cheeks were cooked amazingly but a bit salty, and the pork belly was flavorful but a touch dry.
We then ordered the Landfood platter and were excited to dive in as my in-laws had eaten here before and raved about the quality. The potatoes brava pretty decent, veggie paella was spot on and yummy, the brussels sprouts left a bit to be desired being soggy, while over spiced. Near all meat was on a skewers. The chicken was okay. The Iberico Pork was so overcooked I needed to drink my water to hydrate it enough to swallow. The steak knife was absolutely needed to saw through those pieces of meat. The beef and lamb skewers were also overcooked to the point of dryness (not a stich of pink to be seen). Sadly, we couldn't tell the difference between beef and lamb because they were spiced so heavily. Even the Spanish sausage was dry, though it didn't look overcooked.
For the price of the meal vs. what we received, we won't be visiting this...
