The only way to leave a review is to put one star. My experience at this location deserves no star. I was going to give this the 24hrs it deserved however still mind blown at the disrespect and disdain Mike, the Manager, had for this customer and customer service over something so simple as a small Blizzard.
After a great outdoor activity with my son visiting from out of town on our first day of summer vacation, he treated me to a Blizzard. I ordered a small Chocolat Extreme with extra Cookie dough. I treated myself. It’s been a while. Don’t judge me!
After three scoops, all the ingredients were gone and no cookie dough to be had. All that was left was a pale ice cream in cup. I proceeded to bring it back to get another properly built Blizzard and waited patiently at the Pick Up window for some assistance. They were busy. Mike saw me and came by to ask if I needed help and I stated the blizzard was devoid of ingredients and all that was left was ice cream. He then challenged me to say that it was not just ice cream but contained Chocolate syrup that made the ice milk a brown color, an ingredient in the Extreme Blizzard therefore, not just “Ice Cream” as I had stated. I noted his tone and look as dismissing in nature and asked him if he was about to debate and argue with the customer.
This is where it escalated and he proceeded to berate me by asking me to “ give your head a shake!” and not be rude by insisting that all that remained was just Ice cream in the cup. Clearly he was hung up on this small detail and gave me a regard of utter disrespect to compound the already great amount of disrespect and hostility over something so benign. He then asked me if I wanted another one. I believed it was implied by my presence. I was apoplectic that he would have such utter disrespect for a customer however remained stoic and courteous enough to not escalate it further as there were patrons and families with small children in the restaurant. I have never come closer to climb over a counter to confront someone so much however it wasn’t worth the energy. Mike is bad for business and needs some remedial training on how to address customers. If he hates his life as a manager of a DQ that much, perhaps a new line of work and profession is warranted. I didn’t need to...
Read moreI normally love this location, and always have good service. However, today, when I called to inquire about a custom cake, the decorator I spoke to was beyond rude. I asked if it would be possible to have done sometime tomorrow ( It didn't have to be in the morning or anything). She told me that management set a min 48hr notice for custom cakes (it would have just been fine if she explained that and stopped there). But then she was like well what did you want? And I tried to explain it to her and how I didn't want an "edible image" and her tone became rude and she made it sound like a burden. Don't offer custom cakes if you don't want to do them plain and simple. She wen't on to say it's an extra cost of $10 for icing or gel (I order custom cakes from DQ all the time and have never been charged for the icing, even at this store I had an absolutely beautiful cake made for my daughter's birthday last year where the decorator went above and beyond). But not just that she started complaining saying it's because it takes her an extra 2 hrs to do customs with icing or gel..... it's not my fault it takes her longer to do. Also she went on to say the online ordering will say $12 (and it does under edible image, website doesnt say anything about a charge for icing) but that she only charges $10, so like shes doing me a favor. I could see if it was standard practice or something but like I said I have ordered plenty of custom cakes from them and many other Dairy queens before and this is the first time I have heard of it. Anyways not impressed and will just avoid this location in the future as the experience was very off putting. Called the one on 127th and 169st in edmonton and they are able to have it done tomorrow even though their decorator isn't even...
Read moreDairy Queen: A Slice of Summer Nostalgia (and a Perfect Banana Split!) Some places just scream summer, and for me, Dairy Queen is at the very top of that list. It's more than just an ice cream spot; it's a direct portal back to childhood memories, and a beloved tradition that my family looks forward to every year.
I'm talking about that kind of Dairy Queen – the classic, small building with no inside access, where you walk up to the window. It's only open when the weather warms up, and honestly, that just makes it all the more special. It's a true sign that summer has officially arrived.
Our routine is simple but perfect: a warm summer night, the family piled in the car, and a mission for a sweet treat. It's become a cherished tradition, a little ritual that marks the season and brings us all together for some simple, unadulterated joy.
And for me, there's only one choice: the Banana Split. It's my absolute all-time favorite, a masterpiece of vanilla soft serve, ripe banana slices, and those classic chocolate, strawberry, and pineapple toppings, all finished with a generous swirl of whipped cream and a cherry. It's perfection every single time, hitting that sweet spot of creamy, fruity, and utterly delicious.
But honestly, it's not just about the fantastic treats. It's about the feeling. It's the laughter, the sticky fingers, the melting ice cream drips down the cone (or cup!), and the simple pleasure of being together on a balmy evening. It’s a taste of nostalgia wrapped in a present-day pleasure, creating new memories while reliving old ones.
Dairy Queen is more than just a dessert spot; it’s a treasured summer institution. Here's to many more warm summer nights, many more family treats, and many more perfect...
