You'll read elsewhere of soggy crust and yes, they're guilty of having a beautiful pizza oven but not being able to pull off thin crust pizza. More on this in a bit.
The atmosphere is open and the prep area is central so you can see what's going on. The restaurant acts on a semi-serve basis, so you'll have a menu, then write down your choice on a provided slip of paper and you walk up to the till and pay for it and they bring it to you. Someone will probably come to your table and take drink orders but don't count on them to come back. Drink service was spotty.
Though stacked with delicious looking options and pizzas, the menu's layout would confuse most people not used to some of the names of the more Italian selections or more exotic menu choices. My friend chose to get a full pizza but I went with a smaller pizza/salad combo which was just the right size and she took half of hers home. The Gorgonzola, cranberries, and walnuts over romaine salad was dressed decently and the cheese felt really good mixed with the crunch of walnuts and pique of the cranberries. The pizza? Well, it was thin crust but the bottom went soggy. This is not cool. A monkey can use a pizza stone and get it perfect, why not a restaurant? As this didn't effect the taste, I'm going to leave it at that. The pizza was okay. Was it worth the price? Nope but the salad pulled it out. Some notes: The toppings didn't go to the edges or even close and in many places around my friend's pizza the crust had bubbled and burnt which made it an inedible waste, frankly. Very thin to no tomato sauce on half of my pizza. Tomato sauce being the flavor of a pizza, this was counter productive. Spicy Thai pizza was weak on heat to the point where it did taste like peanut butter with the distraction of bean sprouts which weren't able to be cooked enough in 90 seconds of firing in the oven because of their high moisture content. Sooo, Ya. No white pepper taste from the "spicy" Thai pizza either.
Overall, it barely gets a 50% and I'd go once more to give it a chance and try a couple of their other selections before I'd totally pan it. But Tony's Pizza Place can do thin crust perfectly and I'd send you there in a bullet before I'd ask you to spend...
Read moreUpdate July 11, 2023. I predict this location goes out of business. Things got back to normal with great pizza again for a while, then suddenly there is barely any cheese on the margareta pizza. The waitress said we should come on Wednesdays when they have their best cheff in. A couple weeks later, same thing, hardly any cheese so we talked to the waiter and he said they were told to reduce the amount of cheese but you can pay more for added cheese. So now the margareta looks like pizza crust with tomato sauce. We cannot see any cheese. It's now terrible. PLUS, they dropped thier amazing Ceaser salad light oil based dressing for Boston Pizza style heavy mayo on limp lettus. It's aweful and we are done with Famosa.
Update October 14, 2022. This location has new management and it is not going well. Was there today but left after 40 minutes with no food. We watched our salad sit at the counter for 20 minutes. The lone waiter was very innefficiant and confused. He kept getting people their beverages while our salad was warming up to room temperature. He brought this one table the wrong pizza twice and then was at the front for several minutes talking to the other staff. We never received our pizza or the room temperature salad so we finally gave up and walked out. Get a new waiter who knows what he's doing and doesn't say things like "This is my lunch menue and this is my dinner menue" as if he was the owner.
Famosa "WAS" a great restaurant with the best pizza on the planet and...
Read moreWe have been multiple times and unfortunately it’s just not what it used to be. Food quality is good but it’s not worth the price they charge. The salads are drenched in dressing, pizza is often not cooked crispy enough. Biggest issue is the service at this location. The serving staff just seems miserable to be there. We went on Dec 31 and the young woman servicing us did not smile a single time, didn’t make eye contact, never refilled our drinks, didn’t check on us with food. I think she wouldn’t even pass working at A&W. My husband got up twice to ask for a drink refill, and extra set of utensils, and to pay. When we walked in we were told we could sit wherever we wanted, and that same server came to us and asked us to move. We told her we would rather stay because our kids are busy/noisy and we don’t want to disturb the neighbouring tables where she wanted to move us to. The place had max 4 tables filled. She literally rolled her eyes and walked away without a word and then for the next 10 min proceeded to move every chair onto the tables around us. We were sitting there noticing this passive aggressive behaviour (restaurant was still open for another 3 hours) and then when she came back to us we asked her if we could order drinks. It was really bad and this server needs major customer service and...
