I recently dined at Kobachi Japanese Cuisine in Sherwood Park, Alberta, and while the meal initially impressed me with its presentation and flavors, my experience was ultimately marred by an unpleasant aftermath.

Food Highlights: Appetizers and Small Plates: The crispy rice crackers topped with avocado and tuna were delicious, with a great balance of flavors and textures. The grilled mushrooms were also a standout, seasoned perfectly and complemented by fresh microgreens. Sashimi Platter: The variety of fresh sashimi, including salmon, scallops, and squid, was beautifully presented. The quality appeared excellent, and each piece was flavorful. Beef Yakiniku: The grilled beef was tender and flavorful, served with steamed rice and a refreshing side salad. It felt like a comforting and hearty choice.

Concerns: Unfortunately, despite the high-quality presentation and flavors, I experienced stomach issues (diarrhea) shortly after the meal. This was disappointing, as I had high expectations for the restaurant based on the food and ambiance. I cannot confirm whether it was a food safety issue or a personal reaction, but it did detract from what could have been an enjoyable experience.

Service and Atmosphere: The staff were friendly and attentive, and the cozy, inviting atmosphere made for a pleasant dining environment.

Value for Money: The bill came to $100 ish for two guests, which felt reasonable for the premium quality of the meal. However, given my subsequent health issue, I cannot fully justify the price in this instance.

Conclusion: Kobachi Japanese Cuisine has a lot of potential with its beautiful presentation, flavorful dishes, and attentive service. However, my negative health experience has left me hesitant to recommend the restaurant fully. I hope my experience was an isolated incident, and I encourage the restaurant to ensure rigorous food safety measures...

I had an exceptional dining experience at Kobachi Japanese Cuisine. From the moment I walked in, the ambiance was inviting and beautifully designed with authentic Japanese touches. The staff greeted me warmly and were incredibly attentive throughout the meal. I started with the miso soup, which was flavorful and comforting. The sushi platter I ordered was a true highlight — each piece was fresh, expertly crafted, and melted in my mouth. The variety of rolls and sashimi showed a great balance between traditional and creative options. I especially loved the dragon roll; the flavors were perfectly balanced, and the presentation was stunning. The tempura was crispy without being greasy, and the dipping sauce complemented it perfectly. I also tried the teriyaki chicken, which was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. The portion sizes were generous but not overwhelming, allowing me to enjoy every course without feeling stuffed. I appreciated the attention to detail, from the quality of ingredients to the artful plating. The green tea was fragrant and a nice way to cleanse the palate between dishes. The overall service was impeccable — polite, knowledgeable, and timely. The staff were happy to answer questions and made excellent recommendations. I also liked that the restaurant maintains a clean and comfortable environment, adding to the overall dining pleasure. Prices were reasonable given the high quality of food and service. Kobachi is a perfect place for both casual dinners and special occasions. The peaceful ambiance made it easy to relax and savor every bite. I left feeling fully satisfied and eager to return. I highly recommend Kobachi Japanese Cuisine to anyone looking for authentic, delicious Japanese food. It’s definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants...

Really enjoyed my experience at Kobachi. I reserved here due to their mandate of offering the most ethically sourced seafood available, and serving it in the purest way. I was seated at the window in a small space where all food is prepared in the open, which i liked. There were three small tables and the counter by the window, so I'd estimate the the place could host 14 people at once, max. I ordered three kinds of salmon nigiri: King Salmon, Aburi Salmon and regular salmon. It was a great experience where the flavours of each could be appreciated by contract to each other. I also enjoyed a classic salmon role and Aburi Hotate. The salmon role was as good as it could possibly be: fresh, perfectly cooked and seasoned rice, and rolled to a perfect bite size. The Hotate was a pleasant surprise, again, fresh, clean, smooth and subtle. The seasoning was balanced very well, enhancing the natural flavour of the scallop. I rounded off the meal with a baked salmon role, which wasn't the best idea on my part. The fresh, raw seafood was a wonderful experience, that was somewhat disjointed by a role with cooked salmon... Still, the dish was delicious on its own. The whole meal was enjoyed with a glass of masumi sake, which was, again, very fresh and paired well with all dishes. I'd highly recommend Kobachi to anyone who likes sushi, but especially to those of you who case about our oceans, lakes and marine life. More restaurants should be pursuing offering sustainably and ethnically food... we're not just eating dinner any more, we're contributing to either a problem or a solution... in 2025, your dollar...

🎌 Kobachi Omakase Review – Sherwood Park 🎌 If you’re looking for an unforgettable culinary experience, Kobachi in Sherwood Park delivers something truly special. Their omakase offering is where authenticity meets artistry, every dish feels like a story told through flavours. What stood out most was how personalized the meal was. The chef tailored the food to our table and each serving felt like a signature piece; beautifully presented, perfectly balanced, and absolutely delicious. I wish I could list each dish, but truthfully, I was too immersed in the moment, the flavours, and the great company to capture every name. And honestly… that says it all. You just sit back, trust the chef, and enjoy. The space itself is intimate and intentionally smaller, selected for people who appreciate something beyond the typical. It’s for those seeking real Japanese authenticity, not just another restaurant meal. ✨ What others are saying echoes my experience: “Hidden gem — each bite is an adventure.” “The chef doesn’t serve food… he serves craftsmanship.” “Small space with big flavour — worth every reservation.” “A true omakase experience — Edmonton/Sherwood Park finally has one!” From service to presentation to flavour, fantastic doesn’t even begin to cover it. If you want an elevated evening that leaves you talking about it long after, Kobachi should be on your list. @kobachi_restaurant Kobachi 📍 Kobachi Japanese Cuisine 200 Festival Ln #125, Sherwood Park, AB T8A 4Y8 A place where food isn’t just eaten, it’s experienced. 🍣✨ ---------- #KobachiSherwoodPark #YEGFoodie #EdmontonEats #SherwoodParkEats
