Disgusting take-out experience. I've dined in before. I figured if you can get past the filthy dining room, drinks without ice due to equipment broken for YEARS, surly and miserable "help", and "pay-before-you-know-what's-wrong" policy? The fish is not bad. Not GREAT, and smaller portions every year, but if you aren't close to a good F&C Brits basically passes.
Don't try takeout however. I ordered the 4-fish-2-chip-2-sides for $60. Whatever genius packed it up, managed to arrange it all such that the peas and gravy burst all over everything else from basic handling from restaurant to home.
Not surprising, as when I tried to salvage the green & brown slop, they had packed the messy sides into glorified thin paper dixie cups with non-fitting lids. Because saving $0.10 with the lowest quality packaging imaginable, is totally worth a miserable meal for a customer.
Of course, being the pretentious cheapskates that they are, Brits wrapped all the fish, chips, and onion rings in craft paper, so that everything was thoroughly soaked and soggy.
Nice try at being "authentic", with your frozen cut-rate McCain Superfries (NOT chips, and definitely NOT homemade) wrapped in greasy paper to save another $0.10 on a container?
And when a customer asks for "extra tartar sauce", to you, that means one tiny "Olde Style" plastic packet per piece of fish eh? Don't get crazy now, I mean you must be on the verge of bankruptcy, I wouldn't want to be the prepackaged room temperature tarter satchel that pushed you over the edge into insolvency!!!
I believe in paying attention to the small things at a restaurant. If they can't afford more than a dixie cup for exploding takeout sides, if they save money recycling mismatched lids, they can't make their own tartar sauce, can't fix the equipment, can't pay their workers enough to be present and attentive, can't afford to clean in the dining area?
Then what is going on in that kitchen that we CAN'T see? (Hint: google their AHS inspection reports, citing long term and repeated hygiene and disrepair issues.)

Read moreJust had lunch at Brits Fish & Chips off Argyll with my hubby. This was our first time here, although we always had good intentions of coming here before, sadly it never happened until today.
We are glad we did! I am not much of a fish person for 2 reasons. First and most important is how the majority of fish is caught. The nets kill far more than just the edible fish fishermen want. Secondly, and this will sound weird, but I don't like fish that has a strong fish taste. I had the 1 piece haddock with fries. I think this was $11.50 + GST. It was fantastic! Price was fair for the portion size. The batter was so light and crispy, it wasn't like a pound of batter on the piece of fish like other restaurants. It was really delicious, both of us really enjoyed our meal! The service was friendly too.
So why only 4☆'s you ask? Here is why! It is 2020 now & people are starting to care more about the environment, recycling, plastics in the ocean etc. So I found it odd for a fish and chip place to not have any "Oceanwise" options on the menu.
What is Ocean wise? Here is what this means:
Ocean Wise is a Vancouver Aquarium conservation program created to educate and empower consumers about the issues surrounding sustainable seafood. Ocean Wise works directly with restaurants, markets, food services and suppliers ensuring that they have the most current scientific information regarding seafood and helping them make ocean-friendly buying decisions.
The options are highlighted on their menus and display cases with the Ocean Wise symbol, making it easier for consumers to make environmentally friendly seafood choices. The Ocean Wise logo next to a menu or seafood item is an assurance that the item is a good choice for keeping ocean life healthy and abundant for...
Read moreWent with my boyfriend for the first time today since he's been going since he was a kid. The food was really good, I ordered the clam chowder (starter size) and he ordered two cod, then both got the calamari. The clam chowder tasted pretty plain until I got to the bottom however the fish was really good and fries as well. This goes the same to the calamari (we even took one order home). The chairs were somewhat filthy and it was odd and unusual to have to grab your own drink. We were having a good time overall until we ordered the second batch. The lady at the front ended up making fun of how I accidentally asked for a bag. When I asked I slurred my S's slightly by accident which she then mimicked the cook making fun of how I accidentally pronounced "yes please". She was overall more attentive towards my boyfriend than me as well which seemed overall unprofessional. This is my personal experience but everyone has something different. I would also like to add that it is unusual that they wrapped my calamari into...
