I feel bad leaving a low review, but I shouldn't. After reading some other reviews I see I'm not the only one that got the grumpy treatment from the man at the counter (owner I guess?) I was a little disappointed to see there was nowhere to sit, but then I was greeted with basically a stare instead of a hello.
There was no menu, no prices, no info, so I asked what they have and the response was "just drip coffee." I had to pry for more information. No pour over? With all these coffee bags on the wall? I asked what coffee and he said "medium and light roast."
For a specialty coffee shop, giving absolutely no information is a terrible business model. We expect much better. It was like pulling teeth to get some information on the roaster. He clearly didn't want to be there nor did he seem to want anyone else to come in. Do him a favor and don't bother going in yourself.
The shop is aesthetically pleasing, but the vibe is very much "get out." The coffee was just fine, nothing special. Worth an extra star I guess. For the price, I'll take my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe place looks amazing. Unfortunately the owner is a bit rude. We were in Squamish on a rafting trip and the people at the rafting place told us that 1914 has the best coffee but they're usually closed on a Sunday unless the owner's SUV was out front. So we went by the shop and the owner was inside and the sign said "Closed" but we just wanted to ask him if he could make us a cup of coffee because we were really excited to try it and were in town for only a few hours. But he got angry with us for no good reason and literally yelled at us "read the sign what do you want from me?!". Needless to say we were really embarrassed by this situation and especially since we went from being happy and excited to embarrassed and disappointed. In my opinion you should always greet your customers in a nice and friendly way (even if you're closed). It really makes a difference to acknowledge their excitement for your work and ,even if you're closed, you should be nice about it and encourage them...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife went in to buy a bag of espresso beans from this place a couple of days ago, and I asked her to check the roast date on it which turned out to be July 21--well over a month old. I've bean roasting my own beans and pulling espresso from both Quickmill and Alex DB machines for decades. When she brought up the roast date he basically told her 'it doesn't matter', so she bought it anyway. I pulled shots from it this morning and it is indeed VERY STALE. I could post a video of the extraction, spriting and splattering all over the place, no cone and no crema, etc--stale. I don't know where this guy has learned his barista stuff, but either he is inexperienced or dishonest, not sure which. Sounds like lots of folks are happy enough with what goes on here, but for anyone looking for a third-wave coffee experience I would advise them to...
