The burger report for Jack's Burger Shack St Albert. Jack's Burger Shack has apparently been open for about 10 years or so and have gotten a bit of a reputation so we decided to give them a try. Please note if you are going here that they are closed between 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. so don't make the mistake we did and come at 2:45 LOL. Once we found a parking spot at the back of the building we walked around to Jack's and it's a small cozy little eatery but the staff are super friendly and very informative on any questions you may have. They seem to be a licensed establishment so you can get a shot of liquor in your drink which is a nice surprise. They have a selection of burgers which did take us a little bit of time to order as we were not familiar with the menu but with help from our server we decided to try The hangover Burger and the regular burger with cheese and bacon added as well as a poutine. The meal was cooked in a timely manner and we received our food faster than we expected. The hangover Burger is basically a burger in between two grilled cheese which is pretty good but the regular burger with bacon and cheese was my favorite. The meat is a Smashburger but they grill it to a point where the meat and fat is rendered toward the edges giving it that beautiful flavor we've all come to love, the condiments are very fresh and they're homemade Jack sauce had an excellent flavor with the burger, my only complaint was that I didn't get a double Patty. The hangover Burger which is the grilled cheese themed tasted good and I can see why some people consider this their favorite. The poutine was excellent, the fresh cut fries and done to a Golden crisp and you can taste the fryer oil was fresh and the gravy is homemade and tastes amazing, many other places would use a bag gravy but not Jack's. They're gravy is poured over the curd cheese and being piping hot, melts the cheese right onto the french fries, who could ask for more than that? The eatery may be small but has more than a dozen chairs and a few tables if you would like to eat there. The one thing that stood out was the taste of the burgers as in the actual meat you could tell it was very fresh and, it had that crisp to it which tasted amazing and they used a larger bun not your typical sesame seed store bought bun, but an airy soft styled bun. While it is nice, it does crush down a little bit more than I would like so be ready for it, all in all it works well with their burgers. Jack's Burger Shack is known to try different types of burgers and have let people know if they have any ideas to share with them which is pretty cool. All in all I would like to give this place a 8.6 on the Munch meter which is very good. Anything over a 8 is a place you should definitely try out. Great job guys and keep it up and thank you very much for...
Read moreGood burger as I ordered the "Big Jack" with fries. The burger patties is seasoned perfectly with a nice caramelized crust. One minor problem is that the bun disintegrates with all the other ingredients. There is fries in the burger too though not much of it. Same with the jack sauce. However this burger is 100 times better than Burgerpriest's burger.
The fries is okay as I feel like its missing something. Maybe the way it is prepared or cooked. The salt aloli is really good though as it was creamy and not too salty.
The milkshake I order was Darth Vader. I am not joking as that is the name of the drink. Darth Vader is coke and vanilla. This is really good milkshake. Probably the best I had so far.
You have to buy burger, fries and beverage separately.
I would have given them 5 stars but I had to subtract one star because of bad customer service. Note I would have dock 2 stars but I am a bit generous so only 1 star is deducted. My friend had to wait 15-20 minutes for his milkshake and water after receiving his food and two other tables got their food. He even ask for when he will get his drinks. Employee said soon so he still had to wait when it was 15 minutes before closing time on Wednesday. When the drink was supposedly ready, a female employee slammed his drink on the table nor apologized for delay. Oh this gets worse the employee gave my friend the wrong order. Then when they finally gave my friend the right milkshake... guess what the same employee did? She slammed the drink again and did not apologize. If you made a mistake own up to it and apologize then improve on it. Not slam the drinks as if its our fault.
Also why place the garbage bin the middle of the room close to the tables? Are you trying to smoke people out so that they do...
Read moreI honestly don't know how this place has such great reviews, took my wife and toddler there last night for something new, extremely limited seating inside, and with an hour left to go till they closes they were already taking down the outdoor seating in the patio area. The next thing, the bathroom was out of order and had to leave the establishment to go use the washroom in there sandwich shack around the corner and down the street, HIGHLY inconvenient with a toddler.
Now onto the food, keep in mind... for 2 adults and a toddler to eat with milkshakes was almost 80 dollars at this sub par fast food diner. I ordered a burger and fries for the little guy with cheese, which is extra, the burger then came with a half piece of kraft single style cheese, not even covering the entire patty. If you're charging extra for cheese I expect it to cover the whole patty and more. The actual patties themselves were thin and quite flavorless, I think I have tasted cardboard with more flavor... the only flavor was in the actual sauce. The fries came unsalted and kind of soggy, and I got a side of gravy as well for my fries, and let me tell you... I have never, EVER, had such tasteless gravy. The ONLY thing that was good was the milkshakes but even at the prices they charge you are far far far better just going to dairy queen for a milk shake.
If you must try this place for yourself then go ahead, it is your right, however take a little drive and head down to Peter's Drive-in down on the south side of Edmonton for Diner style food done they way it's supposed to be. This was no where near an $80.00 experience, I would still feel ripped off...
