Chucks Roadhouse Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Stratford

My husband, our friend and I tried Chuck's in Stratford on Sep 5 2024. We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation time of 6 p.m. We were never asked anything about our reservation, including our names, but did manage to be seated right away. After being seated, our drink orders were taken right away, and we were provided with menus. We placed our drink orders and settled in. After a wait of about 10 minutes, the waitress and a trainee came back to the table to let us know the bartender was having a few problems, but our drinks should be arriving shortly. She then took our orders...a fish and chips, a burger, and a ribeye steak, medium. Our friend, who ordered the ribeye asked if there was a chance of replacing the corn with some other, perhaps healthier, choice. There was not. Shortly afterwards, the drinks arrived. After another very short wait, the food arrived. The fish and chips and burger were fine - nothing special, but fine. The steak however, was seriously undercooked, which was not really discovered until after the waitress, and also the owner Jay, had left us to it. We eventually managed to flag the trainee waitress, who told us she would take care of it, but left the meal on our table. After approximately 15 minutes, I went looking for help. I found another waitress, explained the problem, and was told she'd take care of it when she "got a minute". After another long wait, our friend got up and went to find Jay. My husband and I had by now finished our meals. Jay did finally come to the table, with a waitress and the undercooked steak was taken away, with the promise of a new one. The new meal arrived in a reasonable amount of time, but the ribeye steak looked suspiciously like a sirloin, and our friend said the flavor was inferior. While we waited for our friend to finish, my husband finished his 2nd beer and I ordered a "godfather", a very nice cocktail. Eventually, our friend finished his disappointing steak dinner, we asked for and received the bill, paid and left. Zero offers to compensate us for the experience, weak apologies from the owner...unbelievable. We understand this was the first week that Chuck's was open in Stratford, and that it was a busy night. Mistakes happen... It's how you deal with them that matters, and Jay and his team dealt very poorly with this. For this reason, we do not recommend this...

We entered an almost empty restaurant - 7 people sitting at the bar - & was told to "take the table over there, the one with plates on", when we got to the table it was dirty, it had food on the table & bench & drink ring marks on the table, the person who told us to go there shouted over to say yes that one, we shouted back it's dirty - she said to sit at the one behind. We ordered drinks, apps & entrees for three, the garlic pan was literally warm rolls with no garlic flavor - we weren't given any cutlery, plates or serviettes so got up & got our own, the mozzarella sticks were OK. Out of the entrees, my husband took 2bites of his chuck burger & said it was so overcooked & dry that he wouldn't be eating any more, he was offered a replacement but due to the wing & rib combos (2 of these were ordered) having barely any sauce or flavor he declined. The waitress came back & said she would deduct 50% from the cost of the burger - we said that more than 50% was sent back & that offer was terrible & asked to see the manager, she didn't get the manager but came back a few minutes later & said she'd removed the charge for the burger. The manager however did appear to speak with her after we'd paid our bill, after seeing us looking at him he eventually made his way over & asked if we'd enjoyed our meals! We told him the whole experience left us completely underwhelmed & that we would never have any plans to return to his restaurant again, he seemed surprised - we're only surprised that they have so many good reviews. When we left there was still the same 7 people at the bar & people had been shown to the same dirty table that we were offered HOWEVER, she said oh wait & quickly cleaned it. Stratford has so many great choices for eating out, we will make our future choices from...

Chucks is a fave spot of mine and to go to the one In startford was really disappointing, it seemed like we were an inconvenience to our server she didn't look like she enjoyed her job and never introduced her self when approaching our table ,it took 15 mins to get served a drink after being seated , it was 4pm when we arrived and i ordered a coors light on tap My glass was extremely dirty I got my second beer b4 5pm and she charged me an extra dollar for the second beer when it was 4 dollars till 5 pm . I ordered a burger and fries with side gravy the food did come out piping hot so fresh (30 mind later) , but the burger came out burnt and that's all u can taste the server never came around to ask how every thing was. The atmosphere was great but the service was horrible, I come from a service background and I see so many coaching opportunities for your staff . I understand things happen but the server could have made that experience a lil diff is she was more attentive and not trying to hide from their guest. Servers talk about tipping culture but it reasons like this patrons don't tip, although I did tip the 20% it's only cuz i felt bad because maybe she didn't get proper training i don't know the situation maybe it was personal.
