Well chosen fish. Their pure sashimi fish was delicious, above many sushi restaurants in Surrey. Large, thick slices. Nice soy sauce. Cheap, worthwhile prices. Many deals/combos available. They don't emphasize a lot on sauces, which is nice, depending on your personal taste.
The bad. -Not many fresh fish options. Most rolls and menu items had cooked fish (deep fried "tempura", and or smoked), fresh options were generally $4 more expensive. The price is acceptable, the options not so much.
--My sister had a rice dish and after discussing with the waiter and chef it became evident that they didn't prepare any of the dishes themselves. It all came frozen or bottled, then they put it together. Small veggie portions, but they were commendably considerate when it came to her allergy.
-Rolls the size of my palm. The full-grown man that accompanied me had to take it apart to eat it. It was mostly fake crab.
-Not fully cooked Agedeshi Tofu: I wasn't eating something deep fried, I was eating gelatin-covered tofu.
-Staff wasn't much to praise, they kind of went with the flow, and didn't mind if they misunderstood. As they did, both times I interacted with them. They weren't bad though, just okay.
-It's small and doesn't have any atmosphere. Not big enough for a family meal, few seats available, not cozy enough for a romantic or professional outing. Which is fine for something very casual, this is simply worth mentioning for the sake of review, so you go there knowing...
Read moreWow, was this place ever a welcomed surprise. Outside, the place looks like a casual eatery, modest, but quaint and homely.
There's not much room inside, here on a Wednesday evening. In fact the place is packed, but enough room that we don't wait too long for the table.
Bbq beef short ribs to start with for the appy. I kid you not, there is pure kitchen sorcery going on in the back of the kitchen.
Best short ribs I've had in Canada bar none. Top 3 ever. Served with slightly caramelized onion and topped with sesame seeds and fresh chives.
It's velvety, succulent and bursting with flavor. The umami factor is top notch. High quality cuts with just the right amount of gristle... wow, what a treat. This is food made with love and perfection.
House roll was large and fresh. Every ingredient perfectly balanced. All rolls were on point! The BBQ eel was in close competition to the ribs. Nigiri also super fresh. Literally everything perfect.
To finish things off, this young man Ethan was picking up the pace for the extra crowd forming. Gave us a complimentary dessert to form the cherry on top. Can't say enough good things about the place. Coming back in...
Read moreSmall business, family owned! Cute classic sushi layout inside. You can eat at a table or the “bar style area” where they make your sushi. You can tell they take pride in their restaurant from the moment you walk in. Super nice people and with the warmest smiles.
Experienced great service as they were always ensuring our tea is filled and that we enjoyed are food. The prices are very affordable compared to a lot of sushi places out there these days.
The portions were SO HUGE, a lot of rice but also a lot of fillings / very big pieces of fish too (a rarity these days). I almost wanted to use my hands to eat, as each piece had solid weight to them! PLUS, The fish was extremely fresh… toro was my favorite. I ordered the same amount of rolls I usually do and can easily eat, but this time it was a struggle! And that’s a testament to the generous portions. Bonus points: the tea tasted like the proper roasted green tea that was hot, not like Luke warm water 👍
To summarize, I would definitely come back!
Give it a try and support this business 🌟🌟🌟 they hit all 3 pillars which again, is rare these days: kind service, extremely generous servings and FRESH...
