I came by for a quick lunch on my lunch break and saw this new restaurant in place of what was previously My Shanti. Walking into Spice Republic, you're immediately enveloped in an atmosphere that's both unique and captivating. The decor is a feast for the eyes, blending traditional elements with modern twists, creating a space that's as visually appealing as it is comfortable. The lighting perfectly complements the art setup with the veils hanging from the ceiling, casting a warm and inviting glow over the entire dining area. From the moment you step inside, it's clear that this isn't just another restaurant; it's a meticulously crafted experience.
The service at Spice Republic only enhances the overall experience. The servers are not only fast but exceptionally friendly and attentive. They navigate the bustling environment with ease, ensuring that every need is met with a smile. It's the kind of service that makes you feel genuinely cared for, transforming a simple meal into a memorable dining experience.
Now, onto the main event: the food. Our choice, the Burger Singh, was nothing short of a culinary revelation. This dish masterfully combines the robust flavors of Indian cuisine with the familiar comfort of a burger, creating a fusion that's both innovative and utterly delicious. The presentation is impeccable, making it clear that great care goes into every dish served here. Each bite is a journey through a blend of spices and flavors that are bold yet perfectly balanced, leaving you eagerly anticipating the next.
With its stunning decor, exceptional service, and innovative cuisine, it offers an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you're a fan of Indian flavors or just someone in search of a meal that will tantalize your taste buds, Spice Republic comes highly recommended. It's a place I'll not only be returning to but also enthusiastically recommending to friends and family. If you're looking for a meal that's out of the ordinary, look no further than...
Read moreAfter spotting a coupon in an advertising insert in the Peace Arch News recently, I decided to try Spice Republic for a late lunch. Upon arrival, I was cordially greeted. The restaurant has three areas: a large dining room, a small bar area, and a somewhat secluded patio space. I chose the dining room. All areas were well organized and clean. After presenting my coupon, the server indicated the area on the menu from which I could choose a free starter and the area of the menu where I could choose my main. The starter I choose – Punjabi Samosas – was described on the menu as two “Crisp flour pastries, savory potato filling, ragra choley”. A delicious dish, indeed! (I ate half the starter and took the rest home.) The main was à la carte, so I chose my usual Indian dish – Butter Chicken – and added rice and naan. The chicken was tender and the sauce was very tasty! (I ate half the main and took the rest home.) Throughout the meal my server was very pleasant, attentive and engaging, and even asked if I would like her to change or adjust the volume of the background music. I asked my server for “doggie bags”, after which she asked me if I would like to see the desert menu. I said no, please just tell me my choices, believing dessert would be included, as the coupon stated. From the dessert choices my server mentioned, I chose cheesecake (which came topped with ice cream and garnishes). I asked for my bill and settled it immediately at my table, after adding a tip. When I got home and checked the bill, I noted $10 had been added for dessert, surprisingly not at all what I expected, given the coupon indicated dessert would be included. Hmm – clearly, I should have raised this issue at the time. I was the only in-person customer for the hour or so I was at the restaurant, and there were a couple of takeaway orders during that time, but I hope other people who enjoy Indian food will give Spice...
Read moreMy recent return to Spice Republic was met with profound disappointment, starkly contrasting with my initial visit just a month prior. It's disheartening to witness such a rapid decline in both the quality of food and service within such a short span of time.
During my first visit a month ago, Spice Republic presented an amazing experience. The flavors were vibrant, the dishes impeccably cooked, and the service attentive and hospitable. It was a culinary journey that left a lasting impression, prompting me to eagerly return for another taste of their offerings.
However, upon revisiting Spice Republic, I was met with a starkly different reality. The once-vibrant flavors had been replaced with blandness, and the dishes lacked the finesse and care that had characterized my previous experience. It was as if the kitchen had lost its magic touch overnight, leaving behind a hollow imitation of its former self.
Similarly, the service had taken a noticeable downturn. The staff seemed disinterested and aloof, lacking the warmth and attentiveness that had defined my initial visit. The once-inviting atmosphere now felt cold and sterile, further contributing to the sense of disappointment that permeated the dining experience.
Adding insult to injury, I discovered the troubling tipping policy at Spice Republic. It's disconcerting to learn that the owner allegedly keeps all of the tips, depriving hardworking servers of their well-deserved earnings. This unethical practice only serves to tarnish the restaurant's reputation further and leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of patrons.
In light of this dramatic decline, it's difficult to recommend Spice Republic to others. What was once a promising culinary destination has now become a shadow of its former self. For those seeking a memorable dining experience, I suggest looking elsewhere until Spice Republic manages to recapture the essence of its...
