Off White…
Sometimes we just eat wherever is convenient and this Spot was the convenience of the day, it’s located outside of Guildford mall along 152nd street with its parking lot at the back.
Not going to lie, these are one of those restaurants we grew up with when we were young and occasionally we still go back to them for whatever reason.
Upon arrival, had to wait 10mins before someone miraculously came to show some existence of life in this place. Inside was pretty clean and could sense a silent atmosphere.
Here were the food I ordered;
Chicken noodle soup. The soup was lukewarm, when soup served lukewarm its an automatic failed to me most of the time. Coconut prawns. Pretty decently done, light little crisp with a nice light crunch to the prawns. Steelhead florentine bowl. It was okay, the tomatoes and rose sauce was a bit too overpowering the fish. New York steak. On the menu there’s a section next to the main course read, “RED SEAL CHEFS - Our red seal chefs spend roughly 5,000 hours (that’s 3 years, if you are counting) apprenticing and perfecting their craft in our kitchens. That’s a lot of New York steaks!” Okay with that being said, how come my medium rare steak came out medium well?? My neighbour’s friend’s uncle in a remote village of Timbuktu can probably cook a good steak with 5 hours of training. I can’t imagine how many steaks being wasted in that 5000 hours and still counting… cooking 101 failed!
Overall, the service was pretty basic but could be better if my server was around half the time. It was almost like dining at a ghost town with the food being subpar or failed. Yes I know I hear it all the time from people saying, I shouldn’t expect much from dining at places like this but first of all it’s not free, the prices are not cheap nowadays, and it does take up 1-2 hours of my time. (Honestly my time worth more than the meal lol).
Unfortunately this Spot wasn’t meant to be for me and the food quality...

June 17th, 2024— this was my daughters and I nostalgic comfort place to go to every time before we went to watch a movie at landmark for years.
Came here yesterday on Fathers Day after moving away from Surrey. What a horrible time we had— I understand it was busy but the food was horrible; our fries with our burgers were under cooked and water logged by oil. I told the server and the Manager which we had seen many times before— she’s Latina with a bun came and gave us new fries and made a remark “I got some more cooked fries for you” the way she said it was like I was overreacting about the under cooked fries. The new fries were burnt and we had to pick through the “good ones”.
Not only our fries were bad but my side Caesar was drenched in Caesar dressing that it was spicy because that’s how much dressing there was. My daughter’s burger was drowning in mayo that she had to take off the bottom bun.
I did complain to the same manager in which she was completely unprofessional and acted like she could care less. And said she will take care of some of the sides off my bill; it’s not about the money it was the way we were treated all in all. We have frequented this White Spot for years and saddens me to go from a 5* review to a 1*.
I lost my Father not too long ago and it was already a tough day for me; hence why my daughter and I decided to go to our nostalgic comfort places to cheer us up.
Shame on you to the Manager! Shame!

The server John is just the best! Every time I go there I’m happy when he’s my server. He is very attentive and just a lovely soul.

Read moreWhite Spot is one of our regular restaurants which we visit at least once a month. This evening was a huge disappointment. While we were seated within the suggested time frame for our party of eight, the service went downhill from there quite quickly. No cutlery on the table. The waitress took appie orders at the same time as drink orders and didn't allow us enough time to view the menu before she was gone. The appies came but no cutlery. My brother's order was almost cold by the time the waitress bought a pile of cutlery on one plate and we had to share it around our group of 9. Once our main courses arrived, the waitress disappeared. My husband had to ask for the "seafood" portion of his salmon and seafood trio. Yes, he needed a dish that was dairy-free but he still wanted the seafood just couldn't eat the sauce part. Meanwhile, the waitress never asked us how our meals were. The only time I had an opportunity to make mention of the inedible salad I received was when she came to clear the plates. I was not impressed when she came back to tell me that they were out of the Spot Salad but would a Caesar be okay. It was only 7:30 pm. Who is out of a mixed salad that early in the dinner hour? White Spot has been a part of our lives for over 60 years having grown up by the original White Spot on Granville Street. This was a far cry from the original. And then they didn't take the salad off the bill without us bringing it to our attention. We love the White Spot but won't be back to this one...
