TenGOKU super sushi-yian?!? Came here a couple of times a decade ago before it went through its transformation. Let’s just say it wasn’t that great before. However, been back twice ever since the younger generation of the family took over. The atmosphere and food quality elevated one level up. And the services are more attentive and welcoming now. Here were the food I ordered this time around; 1. Tako wasabi. Nicely seasoned and fresh with a distinctive taste. One of the better ones I had. Good job! 2. Appetizer tempura. Decently okay, fluffy batter with a light crisp. 3. Assorted sashimi. Very fresh and of generous portion, I think it is in competition with Sushi California up the street. (I personally preferred bite size portion tho lol). 4. Albacore toro, saba, chopped scallops, ikura, salmon belly nigiris. Fresh! Especially the tuna toro! (Sadly sold out of chu toro and o-toro). 5. Uni nigiris. Very fresh and generous portion of uni! Thank you! 6. Spider roll. Ordered this to see how the soft shell crab is. Just as I thought, Korean katsu style, jawbreakers! 7. Lobster roll. Came with generous portion of salad but couldn’t taste any thing lobster about it?!? 8. Oyster motoyaki. Once again, a little undercooked, the middle of the oysters were still a bit raw. (Attn chefs: just because the cheese melted doesn’t mean the food inside is cooked!). 9. Seafood yakisoba. Maybe a tiny bit more sauce is recommended. This place is located across the street from Guildford mall on 152nd Street and it has its own little private parking lot. Inside is quite spacious with a modern interior layout and design. I actually like it cause it has character, not so typical and boring. The service was very friendly and at the touch of a button (yes it’s Korean owned lol). It’s still a little shy of being tenGOKU super sushi-yian, but the food quality was definitely a lot better than before and I came back twice to make sure of its consistency. Everything was really fresh and the portion were comparable to places like Sushi California, Sushi Garden, etc…, my only complaint would be the oyster motoyaki (don’t feel bad, a few places made the same mistake lol) I would repeat especially now they open till 12am during the weekends. 3.5 stars

Will give 10 stars if it is possible, simply the BEST Japanese food restaurant in the Greater Vancouver area, 100%. A hidden treasure in Surrey. We have been to a few other places that are way more expensive, but the food quality here is at the local highest, even better than the Omakase place in downtown Vancouver where you have to spent almost $400 per person with taxes an tips without getting full at the end. One thing you can easily tell is the quality and cut of their sashimi, definitely from a very experienced chef, the food portion is quite reasonable. People always say Japanese food is the food eaten by the eyes due to the pleasant presentation but small/even miserable portions, but here you can harvest both the elegant serving presentation and the good portion of food. Both eyes and stomach are happy : ) As for the ramen particularly, although they don't have many choices or options on the menu, their tonkatsu ramen is really something, better than any of the ramen places we have been in the Greater Vancouver Area, even better the three ramen places we tried in Tokyo this summer. We don't really see any value traveling to Vancouver or Richmond to line up for those fancy but low value ramens. We have been there a few times in the past a few months, it was such a nice experience every single time, plenty of parking, nice dining environment (table big enough especially), warm welcoming services, the good food and affordable bills. We would definitely come back for more in the future.

This place has been around sometime and never really the go to sushi spot in Guildford. Finally decided to give this place another try after years. I wasn't disappointed nor was a wowed. We came in on a Friday evening around an hour and a half before closing. There were a lot of free tables. We were greeted and seated promptly. The staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered a variety of dishes. We are a deep fried roll family so we never skip out on one if its on the menu. We also ordered takoyaki and a chopped scallop nigri. These items are typically my use for judgement whether I like a place or not. The Crazy Girl roll and chopped scallop nigri were on point. Would order them again. The takoyaki was okay. We also ordered a couple other dishes. And they were good. I did not give this a 5, though it easily could have been. The price is just more than others in the area. I understand prices are going up. And you want to your tummy to enjoy just as much as hour wallet. I will say that this would be a great place to host a party or large group. There is plenty of space for larger groups and even an upstairs area. I am also going to talk about the water and tea. Not many places actually give you cold ice water. I have to say my ice to water ratio was perfect. I'll be back!

I have never been more disappointed with a restaurant.

This used to be my go to sushi place so naturally I was excited to go back when it reopened. Apparently it is now under new management, with a completely different staff and menu.

My boyfriend and I were sat down when the restaurant was practically empty. We were given menus, and left alone. No one came by for at least 5 to 6 minutes while we looked at the menu. In the meantime, the table right across from us was checked up on while we were ignored.

At this point in time, I started paying attention to the time. It was a full 7 minutes and we would have been further ignored had I not said something to the waitress. She then finally brought us water and sent over someone else to take out order.

I had the order written down on my phone and my boyfriend was reading it off. The waitress then interjected that she did not have anything with her to write with and took my phone from my boyfriend to put in the order! This is highly unprofessional and not acceptable. At this point, we were quite uncomfortable but decided to wait as we had finally placed an order.

The first half of our order came out quickly. Food was fine, not as a good as it was before. I am a vegetarian so I can only eat certain rolls. The rolls my boyfriend ordered were out, and one roll we were splitting came out. I ate 2 pieces of the roll, and waited for the two rolls I had ordered. While I waited, I requested more water.

I never got my refill on water, and we never got the other parts of our order. After waiting for another 15 minutes, my boyfriend suggested that we leave and go to another sushi place. They made us pay for the food we had gotten, no apology offered.

I have been a loyal customer at tengoku for years with my family and introduced it to my boyfriend 3 years ago. It was our go to place for years. After tonight, we will never go back. I have never been so insulted because of a restaurant experience nor been so upset. We will go to Akasaka, a much better sushi...

after being in the restaurant biz like forever downtown and eating at this place once a week here in surrey my girl friend is a sushi freak i can tell you that well then this restaurant was pretty much the best sushi in surrey full boat combo plates that rival Robson st sushi bars down town this place had the very best combo boat plates with teriyaki at a reasonable price but as luck would have it . it was sold to new owners that are not Japanese and every thing has changed now its way over priced lost its atmosphere no more ice cold beer on tap and no more cute Japanese girls to practice Japanese on . we tried the food it was less then marginal we had no real selection all the selections cater to large Partys of people meaning servings are huge plates 30 or more per plate as well the over pricing to go along with it normally we would pay fifty or sixty bucks get combo plates or what ever we wanted with great service and ice cold beer or wine or very good saki and all ways walk away smiling the last time there was the very last time for us and we have been eating there for years .... well over a hundred 25 bucks plus tax and this time no smiling and we felt ripped off snail speed bad service substandard food the tea was Chinese. the waitress spoke no English only Korean or Chinese finally someone from the kitchen took our order no beer no wine no saki no liquor Licence we got seated then ignored for half an hour with no drinks or food and it was not busy however there was one large party of people ....... go check it out you will be as unhappy as we were maybe you can get ignored too . ...with the working formula of success gone that s what happens when new owners that have no clue buy a successful winning format restaurant they change the winning format and its all the way to the bottom they go ... i give i this place 3 years maybe before this place flat lines and the one star is for the location...
