Firehouse Subs Edmonton Grove on 17th — Restaurant in The Meadows

Preordered 2 combos and a gravy for pick-up. We get there 15min after ordering and get passed the bag and decide we’d just eat in there. I asked her about the chips with combo and was told we get lays regular…. I asked if we could just get a cookie instead. She looked confused. Another employee came up and said yes yes take a cookie instead. I asked about our drinks and was given 1 cup and she walked away. I got her attention again and asked for the other cup and she proceeded to tell me to pick whatever chips I wanted. I said no, I would like the other drink for my combo. She kept saying something about chips. I said I ordered 2 combos so I need the other drink. Again another employee had to help and look at my receipt to ensure I was being honest. Now I’m pretty annoyed at this point. We sit down open the bag to eat (club & thanksgiving sub) and there was no gravy. I went up and asked for the gravy and was looked at like I had 3 heads and back to the receipt and sure enough I ordered the gravy and paid for it only to wait until 1 sandwich was gone by the time we got the gravy. So this is rare for me to even post a review and we’ve been to NUMEROUS firehouse locations and LOVE the subs but due to the lack of service and friendliness we will never go back to this location. Very frustrating. I’m happy one is opening up in Sherwood park and save the drive for crap service. I won’t be leaving a place without checking the bag now,...

The sub was impressive. I thought $18 bucks was a bit much for a large sub, but when I opened it, the sub was absolutely stuffed with turkey, lettus and bacon, and it was bigger than I was expecting. Definitely had some left over for lunch next day.

I got the Turkey Bacon Club, and It was real good; lots of turkey, the bacon was cooked perfectly, there wasn’t too much lettuce, and they put on the right amount of ranch. Delicious. Wife had the Spicy Cajun Chicken and was very happy with the taste of it. She also was surprised at the size of the medium.

All together worth the price. There was a longer wait than what I would usually expect at a sub shop, but I didn’t really notice cause it was nice to chill with my wife. Still, when the guys called my name, they surprised us with an extra sub for free as an apology for the wait time. They definitely didn’t need to do that, but I appreciate it nonetheless.

First time trying Firehouse Subs. Read lots of reviews and was looking forward to something special.

Had the "Engineer". The mushrooms appeared to be from a can!?!?? If they were fresh but just marinated in something, I couldn't tell. Bread needed way more toasting. It was pretty much just soft bread, no crunch or colour at all. The meat was just regular deli meat you get from Walmart. The chili tastes like Tim's. Nothing special at all. Wendy's is much better.

Overall a pass from me. Not worth the premium prices they're charging.

• Update * Gave it a second try and was glad I did. Had the Hook and Ladder and it was delicious. They had a deli slicer going slicing fresh meats. I'm not sure why my initial impression was bad. Subway prices are pretty close to here, and Firehouse is definitely...
