I am a regular traveller to Tobermory because I am a scuba diver. With high prices, you expect premium service. The principal is when you pay premium prices you want premium service. Quality of coffee and baked goods are good but the service is terrible. The way the worker talked to customers, our diving club and customers including myself was unacceptable. My order was a bagel with cream cheese and a latte which cost $18. I was in rush to go and this is a take out cafe. I openned the wrapping and had my first bite to notice the bagel order is wrong. I came back to store and told them it's the wrong order. Gentleman - which I think he was owner - accused me about wanting free food to skimp out and questioned me for taking a bite. He thought I am looking for some free food. I just had one small bite from my bagel which I paid for and I assumed they got the order right since that's a pretty standard bare minimum. I returned the bagel and my latte which I didn't even take a sip of. at no point did the workers or the owner offer a refund or to give me a fixed bagel instead they were very rude. I also noticed how he spoke to white people versus me and other customers of colour. i've lived in Canada for more than 22 years and I know the difference when I walk into places and the treatment that they were giving people were not equal, and the level of customer service was incredibly poor and rude. I saw the way he talked to the people before me and I feel the way talk to the people which English is not their first language. I live more than 22 years in Canada and I can feel the attitude. By the way coffee is good , coffee shop is cute but I will not ever comeback to this coffee shop even almost every 3 weeks I am in tobey !! Again that was my personal experience with this place and I am sure some people have...
Read moreDo not get the international blend pour over! The cafe is cramped and crowded (kind of the only game in town). It didn’t inspire confidence that the staff were pretty grumbly with each other and the barista was in process of re-making some orders that weren’t made properly. They have a full coffee menu, but also advertise premium international blend pour over. I ordered two of the Kona blend, and then it was one tragedy after another as I watched the barista 1) grab a coffee cup full of pre-ground coffee and scoop it into the pour over funnel 2) use a barely rinsed milk frothed jug and 3) exhaust water from the espresso machine. The water ran through the filter SO fast and it tasted like it. I was hoping for a nice smooth premium pour over (fair considering the $10 price per cup) but got the hot brown water I would have expected from a gas station. And not a nice gas station either. Like the kind of gas station the stars of a horror movie stop in at before they continue along to the abandoned cabin in the woods. I’m getting off track here but I’m trying to really immerse you in the experience. Like I wish they would have immersed those kona beans in 205 degree filtered water after freshly grinding them. If I had to do it again, I would just get an espresso based drink, as the machines there were pro grade and it would likely be way better. To be fair, the cashier mentioned they had regular coffee and not just the international blends. I would suggest they stop offering premium stuff because they simply don’t have the workflow to...
Read moreBefore leaving a review of my experience I’d like to advise the owner to save his putrid response. It has been proven in previous reviews that the owner of this restaurant simply can’t combat any kind of criticism without a sour, pitiful comeback. Which to me, screams insecurity and immaturity, two things that I do not care to entertain. This review is for those genuinely interested in visiting this shop. The workers are nice, it’s a beautiful environment. However, my order was forgotten about twice yesterday. It was Just a coffee and a cinnamon bun. When we finally received my order, the coffee was distasteful and bitter. I figured some sugar would easily fix the issue, but instead, I was advised to “go down the street & borrow Splenda from another shop” because this shop “didn’t have sugar”. Now that is ridiculous and almost comical for a coffee shop. The cinnamon bun was bland, but I don’t blame the workers for that, as it was probably ordered from elsewhere. But it would have been better toasted, perhaps I that was something I should have mentioned at the time of my order. But I feel as though that information would have been forgotten about along with my order. Not to mention the expense. I recommend just going to the food land in town, they serve coffee and meals, parfaits, ready to go. (And yes, they have sugar for your coffee:) I pity the workers that work for the owner of this shop. Given the way he treats his customers via these responses, I can only imagine how terribly he treats his...
