Curiosity got the better of us, and after inquiring with the friendly team, we discovered that the secret to its flavor wasn’t black pepper or bell peppers—it was the Berber spices. This dish transformed my companion, who previously wasn’t a fan of injera, into a lover of this traditional bread!

Not to be missed is the jerk mushroom Rasta pasta, which was absolutely amazing. My companion felt it could use a hint of citrus, but overall, the flavors were vibrant and fulfilling.

It’s worth noting that the cafe was bustling even during off hours on a Saturday, which speaks volumes about how beloved the food is. During a recent late lunch at 13 SUNS Ethiopian Café & Eatery in Scarborough, my friends and I were thoroughly impressed by the experience. The café, located at 74 Hymus Road, offers a warm and intimate setting that immediately made us feel welcome. 

The menu is entirely plant-based, featuring a variety of traditional Ethiopian dishes with a modern twist. We tried multiple dishes. The flavors were rich and authentic, and the portion sizes were ok, I’ll not say big compare to other restaurants.

The highlight of our meal was the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. The freshly brewed coffee was aromatic and robust, providing the perfect conclusion to our dining experience.

The staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall ambiance of the café. The establishment was clean and well-maintained, reflecting a high standard of hygiene.

Let me tell you, my intention was to come and support a friends business, plain and simple. What I experienced was much more than that. A true hidden gem with authentic flavors and a great vibe. I was actually blown away by how good the food was; the owner is super passionate about this spot and you can feel it when he talks about the food and how he carries himself with the customers here.

We ordered the mango flat bread, Sambusa and Beyaynetu which is basically a platter of different flavors of vegetarian sides served on Injera.
