Edit of original review: Changing from 2 stars to 1 after the rude response from the owner. See for yourself below and choose to go to another restaurant nearby with better service. No, I am not going to send the food back unless it’s completely inedible. Some of us did not grow up wasting food. Perhaps instead of obnoxiously responding to a customer who clearly was not satisfied with the quality - accept your mistake and just do better. —- Original review: Relied on reviews to try this restaurant out. Unfortunately it did not live up to the expectations since both of the pasta dishes my friend and I ordered were very unevenly cooked. Most of it was undercooked with occasional al dente pieces. The sauce was very concentrated on the bottom of the plate and rather dry on top. For some reason, the staff waited to serve the main course for a very long time (almost 50 minutes), so I suspect the main course was just sitting there. We had 2 appetizers - the calamari, which weren’t very flavourful - mostly heavily peppered, and the bread, which was fine. Very hard to consider going back since there are so many other options where don’t screw up your $40 pasta dishes…

We had a lovely anniversary dinner here. It was our first time. The pizzas are definitely unique, we had 3 for just the 2 of us. Thin crust that's crunchy on the outside and soft once you bite in. We could tell the owner/cook puts a lot of passion into his work with the 72 hour fermented sourdough. We also had their paccheri ai frutti di mare pasta in lobster sauce, which was simply divine! We finished with some house-made panetone and tiramisu that were out of this world. The owner was kind enough to offer us a digestif with dessert! All the staff were warm, friendly and attentive. The ambiance was charming and cozy and we absolutely loved the decor. We highly recommend!

Wonderful little Italian restaurant super close to St George Subway on Bloor St. I don’t recommend going without a reservation. I ordered a gf pizza made with pesto and mushrooms. The owner came to make sure I was getting something that worked for me as I had asked for gf, no dairy and no tomato. Tough call in a an Italian place but as I can tolerate Parmesan the pesto was amazing. The pizza was piping hot and delicious Too bad they have no sorbet. Dessert is limited to two items: tiramisu and a cookie. I would go back knowing the limitations. The ambience is amazing and it’s obviously a very popular spot.

Were seated at 5:30 at a table for three (one of the first to arrive with a reservation) We ordered are drinks and that's when all service came to w complete stop--no explanation of the menu and/or specials. After 45 minutes, we finally flagged one of the bussers, who we politely asked to inform our server that we were ready to order). We watched as our server went to all other tables, took their orders and brought back their dishes. We asked again. no server and no order. After one hour we finally decided to leave and went next door to The Fox snd Fiddle, where service and attention was excellent. Even though we realized pub fare could not compare to that of Bar Mercurio, we were glad to be received as welcomed customers by welcoming staff rather than the imperious and blatantly rude staff of BM, including its owner, who lay fault with us saying we had told him we weren't ready to order--btw, the owner was our server. Respond to owner: As per your comment that we were "not in a hurry" was a response to your question if we were going to see a show after dinner. We said no, but that did not mean that we wanted to wait an entire HOUR without any service or check-in by you, out server! We asked the busser--politely-two times for someone to come over and take our order. And after one hour we decided it was in our best interest to leave. Take some...

Bar Mercurio is a beautiful restaurant with great atmosphere and cozy, comfortable, lay back environment. The owner is very friendly and welcomed at the door and seated by him. The housemade Sourdough bread they serve is the best Sourdough bread I have ever had at any Italain restaurant in Toronto and really good quality Olive Oil too. My friend and I ordered pizzas and one appetizer to share. The pizza dough is a Sourdough and it was amazing!!! Bar Mercurio is now my top favorite pizzas in Toronto. The toppings are generous and good quality fresh mozzarella cheese and olive oil on pizza. I couldn't of asked for a better pizza. I just wish they had a least one or two more options for vegetarian pizzas on the menu. There is only the Vegan pizza with no cheese or the simple cheese pizza for vegetarian. If they had one more other vegetarian pizza option that would be great maybe a daily or weekly special for vegetarian pizza. The servers were okay but didn't look like they wanted to be there no smiles or anything and never asked how the meal was. I definitely come back again and hopefully the servers will be in a better mood or at least smile. But they were attentive maybe just having a bad day. I will bring back my friends and family and maybe there will be some more vegetarian options on there weekly menu. I love...

I must admit...I was quite disappointed with my latest visit at Bar Mercurio. While the waitstaff were as friendly and attentive as always, this is unfortunately where my list of positive feedback ends. At dinner, 3 of us ordered the main course gnocchi, which could not have had more than 12 dumpling in the tiny bowl it was served in. Given the price of the dish and that it was an entree, the portion size seemed shockingly small and unreasonable. This issue seemed to continue as due to the quantity of our entrees, we were all craving some dessert to round out the meal. After ordering a slice of espresso cheesecake to share with a friend, what was served to us was a sliver cake for the price of $16. This cake slice was so small it was unsharable. Additionally, it tasted stale and again, we were left highly unsatiated. If you do choose to come here, try not to get a table near the back as the BRIGHTEST LED lights turn on every time they open their dessert fridge, which is frequently. It is very jarring and detracted from the ambiance for us and the surrounding tables. There are many other Italian restaurants downtown that offer higher quality (and more filling) meals at the same price point. I do not anticipate returning to Bar Mercurio anytime in the...
