I booked a 1 bed suite for 5 nights but on arrival I was upgraded to a corner suite. This was a lovely surprise as I don't have Hyatt status.||||The room itself was beautiful; spacious and well-appointed. The way I'd sum it up is that they give everything a bit more space, which in turn has a much bigger knock-on effect than you'd think just looking at it on a page. I knew that I liked having a good sofa in a room to relax but I was surprised to find out how effective a good quality desk that isn't just shoved up against the wall in a room can be. I also really liked the spacious walk-in shower with the Le Labo toiletries.||||Ordinarily I'd just talk about the room but I think with this stay that'd be missing the point. Of course the huge room with the high end toiletries and big bed is comfortable, and if that's where it ended I'd probably just tick it off as a nice experience and move on. What really elevated my stay was the staff at every level.||||I've stayed at plenty of hotels before, some cheap and some not so cheap. This was my first stay at a true luxury hotel and what really struck me right from the off was that the staff weren't just polite and accommodating, but they also had the ability to make things happen. This applied to everyone from housekeeping, who invisibly topped up things like bottled water twice a day, to the restaurant staff, who were attentive and anticipated my requests without being overbearing, to the concierge desk who were always able to help and were clearly seasoned travellers themselves and of course the reception who provided an incredible upgrade. As a result, I was able to concentrate on maximising my time when I was outside of the hotel. I didn't just get extra space in my room, but also extra mental capacity.||||In the past, I've always been of the impression that high end travel derives much of its stress-relieving value from being separated from other people: big rooms, quiet floors, separate lounges, plane seats which not only cocoon you fully but also have a little door to close. I've now come to learn that truly next-level travel, while still having those features, actually derives that extra from putting you closer to people who not only have the ability and motivation to lighten your mental load, but are also empowered by their employers to make that happen.
