🇨🇦🍻 The $5 Happy Hour Hideaway for After-Work Drinks!
A Watts (Watty)A Watts (Watty)
It’s my birthday and my husband surprised me with a trip to Toronto, staying at the attached hotel. The trip in took a bit longer than we were expecting, and I was so hungry I said I didn’t care where we ate, so he chose this restaurant. We came in and sat down, and a few minutes later a guy says not a word and puts down two menus. A few minutes later another man comes and fills up our water glasses, replacing one because I guess it was dirty. Neither person said a word. Finally a friendly young man comes and takes our order, and I asked if we could move to the newly vacated table because it was extremely dark. The wings didn’t take long and were fresh and delightful, but no other plates were given to us though they knew we’d be sharing the wings. Our food came out shortly after and it was pretty, but had no flavor at all. My husband grabbed a random waiter to ask for ketchup and hot sauce for the fries and a soda. Nobody ever came to check on us and see how everything was. I joked with my husband that I bet we’d get their attention real quick if we tried to walk out. Well, after 15 minutes of waiting for the bill after a different waiter took my almost untouched fish and husband’s plate away and we were about to accidentally find out. I went to the bar with my husband’s card because I was tired of waiting. I put the credit card on the bar after asking for the bill from someone behind the counter. I put the total with tip on the card and signed the slip, then went to leave. This was the ONLY TIME it seems that we got quick service. The original friendly waiter chased us as we were going to the door saying I needed to add our room number to it to be billed. I seriously thought I paid. We went back to the bar and completed what I thought was done since I put the card right in front of the person who gave me the bill. My husband jokingly said “well, you weren’t kidding, we really did get their attention quickly!” As someone who has worked in customer service for over 25 years, I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re there for a meal and not there to drink and get bar type finger food. They seem understaffed or just don’t care that people actually want a bit more interaction than tossing a menu in my face and not saying anything. Get a self serve kiosk at the door or on the tables if you want to not have to talk to people, you already have the signs by the entrances to seat yourself... You know, except for the “reserved” area of tables that didn’t have people there for over an hour enter the time on the cards on the table stated. It really sucked that I spent my birthday here, but at least the 3 wings that ended up being my dinner were pretty good.

From the moment my S.O. & I got to this place, we knew we were going to be in for trash service. First is first, there should always be someone at the front door ready to welcome you into the restaurant. Secondly, having a Locksmith fix the front door at peak business hours is extremely unprofessional and quite ridiculous considering that most Locksmith services work all around the clock. Thirdly, after waiting roughly 5 minutes just to have a staff come and greet us, I let the gentleman know that we had reservations and he just ignored that entirely which is rude & unprofessional. And lastly, I shouldn't have to get up out of my seat after waiting 30+ minutes for someone to come and attend to our table. Our overall stay at this restaurant was over two hours and that's ridiculous considering we both only had one drink and one plate of food. Now, as beautiful as the establishment is and how great the food was, I'm big on customer service and truthfully, it's extremely garbage at this location. I would not recommend coming here for a date night (or any night truthfully) if you're trying to have a great night. I do want to give them the benefit of the doubt considering the constant shutdowns that Toronto has experienced. However, service was extremely subpar and considering the place wasn't packed...at all... It's just not a good look. It's unfortunate (the irony) that the service was that bad because we would love to come back but after that service, we simply c a n n o t. Word of advice, retrain your stuff or hire people that actually care about their job because truthfully, my partner and I left with a bad taste in our mouths and not from the food. And to finally close, I would let your staff know that telling your customer that the table they're sitting at is "always forgotten" right before they're about to tip is an extremely foolish thing to do. Also consider removing this said table (the table in the corner by the bar..) that staff claim is difficult to remember.

Usually the service is alright, but absolutely horrid today. Went on Jan 13 before midnight simply to get a pizza. The place was practically empty other than one table. This very rudely mannered man watched myself and my girlfriend wait to be seated.. just staring at us… and the guests at the table beside the entrance had to inform us that we just seat ourselves (although in the past I was brought to a table).

As we began to walk.. he rudely hollered that the back is closed as we walked to a table with two sofa chairs.. which is just two steps away from a similar table with high chairs which is apparently fine. Why should it matter where you sit if the table is cleaned after anyways? Also.. not everyone wants to sit in a less than comfy high chair.

I was then asked for an ID, which is fine but weird as I was just there for food, and then got a snarky comment saying that he can’t accept that form of identification.. to which he was displeased when I showed another. Honestly seemed like he just didn’t want to serve anyone out of pure laziness.

My girlfriend didn’t have ID with her… but very clearly didn’t look like a minor… and joyfully expressed that we can’t dine in but can order food to go. Would it be so much of a hassle to just let us eat as we didn’t intend to order alcohol anyways… even though I am of legal age? He then followed behind us shortly as we left the table.

The other 4ish times I went both alone and with friends, I was led to a table with the staff being fairly friendly… and wasn’t ID’ed even for alcohol… but whoever the worker was tonight very clearly needs more training on manners when conversing with customers. It’s honestly offensive to reject a government ID with such pleasure only to be displeased when another is presented.

Edit: Just remembered his justification was “this location turns into a bar past 9pm”. From what I recall, that’s only for bar sections as other restaurants like Kelsey’s allow people to be seated in non-bar locations.

Also, I’ve gone with my girlfriend before around 10-11… where neither of us were ID’ed even though we literally bought drinks.

Their practice of ID’ing seems very questionable.. especially since I’ve seen some fairly young looking people order drinks without any type of ID’ing in the past. Genuinely seems like this worker simply didn’t want more work… the attitude was disgusting and very...
