Overall, it was a nice stay. The room was modern and beautiful. A nice large closet to hang your clothes, and place your shoes out of the way.
When we first arrived, we went to the fridge to place our water, but it was a bar fridge that was unplugged and leaking water everywhere. We called down to ask about this, as we expected a fridge, especially for the cost of the room. They told us it would cost an additional $25.00 per night for a fridge in our room (we were there for 4 nights), so we declined and were pretty bummed. We explored alot of outdoor activities and when we got back to the hotel, they had placed a fridge in our room, and brought us up bottled water, free of charge. We felt this fair and were happy.
The beds were small for a queen we thought. They felt more like a double size bed, and they weren't as comfortable as other hotels we've stayed at. We feel the comfort of a bed is different for everyone, so not sure this will help anyone.
The pool lacked. It was quite small. No hot tub which we would have enjoyed. We used laundry service. That was incredibly convenient, but terribly expensive. We didn't eat at the restaurant, as we chose to tour the city but it was $18.00 + for pancakes at the restaurant in the hotel. Breakfast is NOT included with the room, which we didn't realize while booking - our bad.
We also paid for valet that included parking and them bringing our vehicle to the front doors, which was convenient while in the city. Valet was quick and professional and we felt necessary so as to not worry about the vehicle and traffic.
The room was very noisy. We did request a quiet room and were placed at the elevator which was very, very noisy at all hours of the day and night. I'm sure people could hear us in our room as well.
The hotel was close to the ROM, about a 3 minute walk to the lights. Access to the TTC was easy and Uber in T.O was fast and quick.
It was a lovely stay-cation for us, but we would likely try another hotel next time. We found this a little expensive for what we received overall. You pay for anything you ask for outside of your room fee. Perhaps these are just Toronto rates if you want a decent and clean place to stay with everything at your fingertips once you stepped outside. We got want we wanted in terms of cleanliness and convenience.
The staff we interacted with could not give us answers to any questions we asked, such as, when breakfast started, what time the pool opend and closed, and if they had any recommendations as to where to explore. We feel that given they are in the heart of Toronto and in the hospitality industry, they should know these answers. They were...
Read moreThe location is great for our wedding guests as our ceremony and reception was close by. We also picked this hotel for a courtesy block because our suite could be connected to the accessibility suite which we needed as we had family members with accessibility needs. Services are a hit or miss depending on who we interacted with. Their lukewarm attitude really put a damper on my wedding day as I was extremely embarrassed that my wedding guests received unprofessional service from the front desk and they could have booked the Kimpton or the Park Hyatt and had better care there.
Upon check-in, front desk staff stated that a guest staying in the accessibility suite was extending their stay so we cannot have the room we booked. This is a misstep and to be frank, I'm very disappointed in how the concierge handled the situation. Check in is supposed to be at 4pm and my guests could not be checked in until 9:30 pm where they resolved the room issue. They acted like they did us a favor by giving us our rooms instead of apologizing. This caused some guests to miss our rehearsal and dinner and stress to my husband and I. Upon further communication, our guests were compensated on 1 night stay but initially only their parking was compensated which was not good enough as one of the front staff acted very aggressively towards my sister-in-law and accused her of swearing when my sister-in-law was just explaining her situation (no cuss words exchanged) about not being able to check in and off load items for her 6 month old (very stressful situation for a baby and mom). This is so inappropriate and honestly a direct apology from staff and manager to my sister should have occured.
A couple of minor mishaps also occured. Our phone in our executive suite was broken and the bar stools we requested was not in our room when we checked in. But the debacle upon check in was something I have never experienced at any hotel I stayed at. The saving grace was the booking manager we spoke with and the convenient location. Maybe if our stay wasn't a hotel block, staff could better handle the complexity but I cannot believe the unprofessionalism that occurred here.
My husband and I are Fairmont regulars, I've been treated better at Fairmont with a standard room (ie, accommodations, service, housekeeping, in-room spa services) compared to what I experienced here at the Sonesta with an executive suite. To stay at two hotels back to back really made me realize how lukewarm the service was at the Sonesta. For better value, I would consider another lux...
Read moreI was quite unhappy with my two most recent experiences. The first was for a reservation from Monday Jan 28 to Tuesday 29, 2019. No one told me when I phoned to make that reservation that the building was undergoing renovations and guests could expect loud construction noise throughout the day. I only learned of this when I checked in, and since I had to be away from my room for work for most of the 29th, I put up with the noise (though it was very loud and disruptive). I did, however, ask the desk clerk upon check-out whether or not there would be renovations going on during my next stay, which I'd already booked for a vacation the weekend of Feb 8-10. Since that visit was going to be for leisure, I did not want to be dealing with the loud drilling, hammering, etc. I was reassured that no, there would not be renovations occurring on weekends. Then, when I showed up for check-in Feb 8, I was told that there would indeed be renovation work going on throughout the weekend! No one had notified me of this in advance and I was especially frustrated given I'd explicitly asked about this exact issue on Jan 29th and would not have kept my reservation had I known there would be construction noise during my stay. I was not offered anything to compensate for the disruption until I asked, at which point, after the desk clerk consulted his manager, I was offered a discount on that weekend's stay and breakfast. In the end, though, rather than deal with noise disturbances on my vacation, I decided to scramble to find an alternate hotel, which was not easy so last-minute, and with no assistance from Intercontinental. I am so disappointed in the way in which this hotel managed this issue. I understand renovations need to occur, but why over the weekend when your guests are mostly leisure guests? And why, when I asked about weekend renovations in advance so that I could make alternate arrangements if needed, was the staff dishonest? If, giving Intercontinental the benefit of the doubt, it only came to light that weekend work would be needed after my inquiry on the 29th, then why not notify your guests who were already booked? I frequently travel to Toronto (including two separate stays in the coming weeks) and will sadly not be returning to this hotel....
