Ask not what you can coo coo cook today, ask what the chicken can do for you. And at Berkeley Cafe, it does everything! I recently returned after some time away, and let me tell you, it’s still just as incredible as the day it opened. The chicken sandwich is nothing short of soulful. It’s tasteful, blissful, and strikes that perfect balance of flavor, texture, softness, and crispiness. Usually, sandwiches get messy, ingredients fall out, and it becomes a balancing act. But not here. Everything is tucked in perfectly, and even if something does fall (like a crisp piece of lettuce or tomato), it’s so good you’ll rush to scoop it up :) I never thought I’d love a chicken sandwich this much, but this one? It’s on another level. And a big shoutout to Sean, the owner, who brings so much heart and soul to this place. His consistency and passion shine through every bite. It’s rare to find a spot that still nails it years later, and this place does just that. Check out my sandwich looking like a total rockstar in sunglasses! Thank you, Sean, you’ve still got it!

My friend and I went into Berkeley Cafe during lunch hours on a Tuesday and the place was already packed with people making their orders or waiting for their food. We decided to both try out the grilled chicken sandwich and iced lattes. Since there were too many customers, the man (not sure if it was the owner) who took our order told us to get a seat while they make our food. We were a little nervous that they might have forgotten our order but we only had to wait for around 10 mins before he took the food to our table. We were quite surprised because this was the first time where we ate before we paid and we weren’t even being rushed to finish our meal. The man was so nice that he even asked us how our food was. I think this cafe is definitely a local favourite as people were coming and going the entire time. The service was impeccable and we also felt very welcomed during our visit.

This place is a husband and wife joint tucked away off the esplanade near the distillery district. The food is simple but delicious, everything house-made. You’ve gotta try her almond cookies which always seem to be fresh out of the oven. During my visit today, a family was here with their elderly grandmother and it came out that the grandmother had visited the cafe in a confused state one night while they were closed. Still, the proprietors opened the door for her, fed her, and helped her on her way. These are the kind of people who run this humble local eatery. You will always be met with a smile, served with kindness and confidence and leave with warm cookies. Highly recommend!

I’ve been coming to Berkley Cafe for about a year now. I work in film and we were filming a documentary next door to the cafe for several months this past year and we ordered sandwiches and soups almost every day for the cast and crew. Even when we would offer the crew the possibly to switch up the lunch spot, their favorite spot was always here and we continued to order from them 4 out of 5 days of the working week for like 6 months until we wrapped on shooting the show. Since wrapping I still stop by here myself for the chicken sandwich and Philly cheese steak. Also occasionally I go out of my way in the mornings to pick up the feta egg and Kalamata olive croissant breakfast sandwich. Shawn the owner is amazing! Super accommodating and would always hustle to make sure our meals were on time and hot. Also they are all super friendly here and offer a great selection of in house made sandwiches and soups. There’s also a cute sitting area outside and nice park across the street to sit at and eat your meal or drink your coffee. As you can tell, I Highly recommend! Thank you Berkley...
