After a LONG 9 hour drive to Toronto, we arrived at the hotel at 12am exhausted and starving. While checking in, my significant other politely asked the man at the front desk if he had any late night food recommendations. We were quickly shrugged off and told “just google it”. Not knowing the area, and having never been to Canada before, this was a very unhelpful answer. Turns out, there were a whole bunch of restaurants and bars across the street from the hotel! We were so tired, we didn’t see this immediately upon arrival. It would have been so helpful if we were informed of this when we initially asked instead of being rudely dismissed.
I had pre-paid for a bottle of champagne upon arrival. The bottle was in the room when we got there, however, it was warm. You should have the bottle delivered to the room upon guest arrival so they receive a cold bottle of a bottle on ice to enjoy immediately.
Our hotel room and door were not “soundproof” as advertised. You can hear doors slamming and people walking through the halls and chatting all night long!! In addition to noises outside the room all night long, the bed loudly creaks with every little movement.
The air conditioning in the room did not work properly! We sleep hot, so we like the temperature to be quite cool at night. Despite setting the temperature to the lowest possible setting from the moment we arrived, the temperature in the room barely dropped a degree from the temperature the thermostat was set to when we arrived.
Looking at reviews after the fact, it seems this hotel has consistent issues with their TV services not working and their TVs being heavily locked down. We enjoy sleeping with the TV on to help drown out the loud and abrupt hallway noises. The tv being out all night long was quite an issue on the last night of our stay before starting our early morning drive home.
Upon checkout there were charges on my account that I did not understand. When questioned the man at the front desk informed me that someone will review the charges and then email me. Why was he unable to tell me what it was for?
We had put this trip together quite quickly and did not have many options for hotels so last minute. If given the opportunity, we would absolutely not stay here again. Every promise on their website, regarding the room and quality of service at Novotel was pretty embellished. It may be an industry standard for the hotel chain, but this location has certainly dropped the ball and ruined any chance for my business at any location...
Read moreStayed at this hotel last night with my daughter and attended a concert in the city. Parking was easy except the paring garage is shared and there was a little section provided for hotel guests that was packed. I had to drive around a few times before I finally got a spot. Location is great. Close to everything and walking distance to St. Lawrence Market, bars, restaurants, Union Station etc.
A few things of note: There were no complimentary toiletries given. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash were all liquid. Normally not an issue, but I needed a bar of soap to get make up off and there wasn't any. Not a huge deal, but good to know for next time.
Biggest grievance, hotel staff knocked on my door at 9:27am this morning. I ignored the first knock assuming it was an error. They continued to knock until I woke up and opened the door. They said they were there to clean the room and apologized that we were sleeping. After they left my door, I saw the cleaners continue down the hall knocking on all the doors to see if guests had left. I called the front desk and complained that I paid for the room and check out is noon. Why am I being woken up by cleaning staff?? Front desk told me this was "their policy to turn rooms over" and needed to get them cleaned. I told front desk this is unacceptable. I've stayed in plenty of hotels and have never once had cleaners knocking at 9 in the morning to see if I've left. They told me they would pass along my complaint.
I don't know about anyone else reading this review, but if this is a policy, I think it's a bad one. I'm sure those cleaners get yelled at more often than not knocking on doors and waking people up, especially after a Saturday night out. Not sure what management is thinking with this one. Although it was a nice hotel, I will not be staying here again. Not only because cleaners trying to get people out, but more so because of the way the front desk handled it. I couldn't believe how rude and indifferent they were. Normally people in hospitality are over the top with customer service. Not here.

Read moreThe hotel was booked based on the ratings within the area that we wanted to stay. Upon arrival, the receptionist was not as friendly as expected and compared to other hotels that we have stayed. She was cordial, but kind of cold. Did not make us feel as welcomed. We were not pointed correctly towards the parking and we ended up parking in parkade across the alley, instead of the hotel parkade (hotel guests were allowed to park there). Found out about the hotel parkade the day we left form another hotel guest.
When in the room, we did not find the bath robes and sleeper. We called front desk requesting them, but we were able to get them sooner by asking housekeeping in the hallway.
It was a newly renovated room (Executive King) and it was nice. Although, not thorough clean. Specifically, in the shower, the corners around the shower floor had black mould or some build up. Not acceptable.
The mattress was not comfortable at all. Woke up with a back pain and feeling tired. Also, there was no sheets on the bed. Just a duvet. Not sure if it was missed or this is how they make the bed in this hotel.
For a hotel of this caliber, I would expect a more modern and updated coffee maker in the room, like Kurig or Nespresso like other hotels that we have stayed.
On the plus side, the breakfast buffet was good with great selection of choices.
Overall, not impressed from our two day stay at Novotel. More likely will not be our choice on our next...
