I’ve known this café for a while now, and it truly shines during the spring, summer, and fall. The back patio is an absolute oasis—lush, peaceful, and full of birdsong. It’s the kind of place where you can sip your coffee and genuinely feel like you’ve escaped the city for a moment. I used to love the empanadas they stocked from The Empanada Company, and I’m happy to see they now offer ones from Alin Mikuna, which are also delicious. It’s great to see them supporting other local kitchens. The coffee? Solid. The vibe? Thoughtful and intentional. That said, I do want to offer some feedback—not as a complaint, but as a hope for improvement. I understand the café wants to avoid turning into one of those all-day laptop lounges. I respect that. But during my last visit, I spent about two hours there, made multiple purchases (about $30 in total), and was hoping to do some light work on my iPad. Unfortunately, I found it nearly impossible. The outlets in the back section—where I naturally gravitated to avoid the overstimulation of the busier front—were either blocked off or only accessible at high barstool tables. As a fat person, those stools aren’t comfortable or accessible. Even the cozy couch areas in the back didn’t offer access to any nearby plugs. It’s disheartening to support a place, only to feel like it wasn’t designed with all bodies and needs in mind. I’d love to see some small accessibility improvements—perhaps an extension cord by the couch or a low table with access to a plug. Something to make the space more inclusive for fat folks, people with mobility aids, or just anyone who needs to charge a device for a short, intentional stay. This café is special. I want to keep supporting it. But I hope they can make a few changes to help everyone feel like they can belong, rest, and recharge—literally and figuratively.

Birds and Beans Address: 2413 Lake Shore Blvd W, Etobicoke, ON M8V 1C5 Rating: (5/5) Order: Flat white Price: $5.60 First Impressions Stepping into Birds and Beans first thing in the morning feels like a breath of fresh air. The aroma of freshly roasted coffee and warm baked goods greets you instantly, pulling you into a nature-inspired café filled with rustic wood accents, greenery, and bird photography. Coffee Quality I went with my go-to order—a flat white—and it reminded me exactly why I keep coming back. Espresso: A rich, chocolaty aroma with low acidity, intense sweetness, and a juicy texture. The medium finish lingers with smooth notes of milk chocolate and caramel. Milk Texture: Silky, creamy, and perfectly balanced with the espresso. Beans: Commit – Birds and Beans’ signature espresso blend. Ambience & Amenities Wi-Fi: Yes Outlets: Available Seating: Plenty of indoor seating and a charming back patio perfect for sipping your coffee while birdwatching or enjoying the sounds of nature. Atmosphere: Laid-back, cozy, and welcoming. Overall Birds and Beans is a hidden gem that beautifully blends exceptional coffee with a love for nature. Every visit feels like a little escape, leaving you looking forward to the next cup.

The last few times i’ve been in, they’ve been filling my 12oz mug halfway with drip coffee and charging me for a large. This morning when i mentioned it really should be a medium, they dumped some down the drain before changing the price. Most coffee shops will usually just fill the mugs up for drip, but even if thats not your policy, perhaps you should use a measuring vessel for consistency of size. I still cant believe they would throw it down the drain than measure the oz. While this was happening the barista was lecturing another guest about her coffee order, who was clearly upset and uncomfortable that she was being berated over her coffee. The line grew longer and longer so the staff could justify their indignation. The coffee is good, but not for the price nor the condescending service. If you’re going to have to wait 10 minutes in line for a coffee anyway, just take the extra time and walk to Jimmy’s.

The best cafe you'll ever come across!

The coffee and drinks are nice! They care about the environment and they are bird-friendly!

You'll always be welcomed with the best staff on hand, they are so friendly and welcoming and they try to learn your orders and names and try to have a conversation with you! Love that about them!!

Bad customer service indeed!! Not only they asking you to leave a tip, most products are way overpriced for no apparent reason!! Before Covid , It was my main coffee place..as I came there mainly for the fair trade coffee. Not only the way they making coffee became bad, but the attitude towards customers is absolutely unpleasant There is tall, large , red haired lady who apparently the right hand of the owner of the shop , exhibited very bad manners!! I’m medically exempt from wearing a mask, from beginning of the “ pandemic “ and I have been telling them over and over again!! They each time had to remind me that I’m not like everyone, not only that, but last time I was the only customer at their “ small shop”, - they refused servicing me , even I wasn’t even in their closed proximity , I was asked to shop on line!’ It actually a discrimination towards people who have a medical exemption!! They also told me that they not taking cash money anymore, which is still a legal Canadian tender, and there is no where in the by law is mentioned!!! I’m shocked how small business like this creating their own “new laws “ and regulations!! Will never spend another dollar here … This coffee place suddenly dropped its ...
