I recently went to this restaurant because of the amazing reviews it got online. I wish I didn't waste my money on salty, slapped together over-priced home food. We ordered the Roast beef sandwich with tater tots, crab cakes and beer cheddar soup.
Crab Cakes (Appetizer) - no crab taste. Tasted like celery, tuna, mayonnaise and bread crumbs. Nothing special - if I wanted tuna sandwich I could have made it at home. I didn't even finish it, it was that bad.
Tater tots - the best thing we ordered. So sad because this was just the side dish included with the main course, the Roast beef sandwich.
Roast beef on a salted bun - Extremely salty! I had no idea they even made salted topped buns. I had to scarp the salt Granules off the top, then bite into the sandwich. Taste - definitely not worth it. Again, overpriced roast beef salty sandwich. I left half my sandwich - not good at all.
Beer cheddar soup - Inedible salty soup. It is the most discussing saltiest soup that I have ever ever tasted in my life. My husband loves soups and after 1 mouthful he couldn't even sample a second mouthful. It tasted like melted cheddar cheese spread mixed with beer and a bag of salt, mixed in a bowl and served. Shockingly, many people we had spoken to also told us to order this dish and said it was so good. Honestly, by far the worst thing I've spent money on to eat.
End conclusion, we ended up going to Ted's and Just Pizza and honestly I regretted even more that we wasted money on the Blackhorn, because Ted's and Just Pizza was so so much better taste wise.
This restaurant was shockingly reviewed well by Guy Fiery on the Diners Drive-ins and dives. We ordered the exact thing and have a very very different opinion. His judgement and standard of reviews has gone down...
Read moreEnd of an Era at The Blackhorn
It’s truly the end of an era at The Blackhorn. For those who may not know, George and Vera—the heart and soul of this beloved establishment—have sold the restaurant and moved on. Their departure marks a significant change, and sadly, not for the better.
The new owner seems to prefer keeping things under the radar, but anyone who visits can immediately notice the difference. The warm, welcoming atmosphere created by George and Vera has faded, replaced by very little, if any, interaction from the new management. Long-time patrons like myself can feel the shift, and it’s disheartening.
Prices have skyrocketed. A simple fountain drink now costs an outrageous $4.95, with no refills—a far cry from the value we’ve come to expect. The changes suggest a lack of understanding about what made this place special: great food, fair prices, and a personal touch that kept us coming back.
It’s tough to see something once cherished begin to decline so quickly. Reviews from long-time customers are rolling in, and they echo the same concerns. I can’t help but think George wouldn’t be happy to see what’s become of the restaurant he poured so much of himself into.
This feels like another case of a business being taken over by someone who can afford it but doesn’t understand the care and effort required to truly run it well. Unfortunately, if things don’t change, The Blackhorn will continue to lose the loyal customer base that George and Vera worked so hard to...
Read moreMy husband an I have been to this restaurant 3 times, not knowing how close it was to us. Was amazing the meal was great , service as well.
Lastnight we thought we would stop by an have another great meal with covid having us locked down for so long .... This will be our last time. We sat waiting to just get a drink for over 30 min, once we received our drinks we were told about the specials, placed our order cause we were told there was a large table for a party an if we didn't order now we would be delayed in receiving our food (I guess the large table was priority to everyone else).
We were asked of we would like to start with a complimentary basket of garlic bread , of course YES! (The garlic bread is great!) Our soup arrived (Beef veg) it had no veggies I had 1 piece of beef in my soup and you could see the grease floating on top. Our meals came the portion size was really small for the size of the plate you shouldn't see the spaces at the bottom.
We got ready to leave the server asked if we would like to take the rest of our garlic bread home.... Yes, of course! Asked for the bill we were shocked to see they charged us $7.50 a beer, $10 for a Ceaser AND $10 for our COMPLIMENTARY garlic bread ..... WTH ..... complementary to me means FREE! Even the servers were laughing it up at us knowing they got away with being shifty with us.
Thought we had a good thing going on here at this restaurant but sadly no,...
