Hi, I would prefer to be able to contact a Manager or speak to an owner but a phone number with no voicemail and no website left me no other choice but to post a public comment. Bread and Roses has been a mainstay in Bloor West for a very long time, long before I moved to the neighbourhood 13 years ago. The food is simple and good and most things are very tasty. Their pumpkin pie is really good and their pecan tarts don't make your teeth ache with sweetness. Now to my point - For years they have used hard plastic reusable and washable water glasses. I visited today and to my surprise and disappointment, I saw mostly styrofoam cups with a only a handful of reusable cups for water. I mentioned it to an employee who advised that it seems many of their plastic glasses have gone missing. She also assured me she would pass on the message and I trust she will but I felt a public post was still important as it may prompt others to also raise the issue. It's very unfortunate that patrons would take glasses and it's kind of shocking but in 2020 when one of the biggest issues of our time is the state of our planet and the waste accumulating on it, AND after 20 plus years in business of being practical and reusing water glasses, you can't possibly revert to styrofoam cups. Please go back to doing the right thing. The 3 star rating is because of the huge amount of styrofoam cups for people to use while dining inside... and would have rated it 4 stars otherwise. If they could also avoid plastic milk/creamers and sugar packages for tea and coffee that would also be a great...
Read moreI love this bakery and go all the way from North York to buy their egg bread and the potato bread. However, was very disappointed today to see that they were throwing all the last slices of the bread in the garbage. I am horrified that, for one, such good bread pcs are going in the garbage, when there are people standing at the corner begging for food.I asked the girl if she can collect all these in a box and I could help support some people who don't have food. She said she does not have place and time to do that. Honestly , I am not sure if the people in the area want to support a business that would rather throw the bread in the garbage than give it to hungry families. She was making a sandwich and the customer wanted Avocado which they did not have ,the customer walked away and the bread went straight in the garbage!!! I know of a lot of restaurants that are supporting local food drives and giving away food at the end of the day. My offer to go collect the bread at the end of the day was declined. I asked for the phone no of the person that owns the place she said she could not give out personal information! I will never ever go back to a place that does not believe in supporting humanity. I don't think anyone deserves to go to bed...
Read moreCostumer service is just appalling. Staff exstreamly rude and don't pay attention to customer's. Staff roll their eyes at costumers when they mess up their orders, instead of apologizing. I ordered a cup of tea, coffee, toasted begal with butter and a muffin.( The begal had to be put through the toaster twice) placed on a wet plate without butter, which i had to pay extra for. I ended up dropping the begal of the tray, which was also wet. The staff just looked over at me. Did not come to help, ask if i was ok. Nothing. The other thing i notice was the staff constantly spoke in korean to each other making very rude comments about the costumers. They just nodded when serving costumers, even though they did speak and understand english very well. I would not recommend this location. There are other bakeries in this area you will enjoy much better. Oh and by the way, the place is FILTHY the staff dont wash their hands and the washroom???? REALLY NEED TO BE REPLACED....
