So for a frame of reference, we have ordered birthday cake and stopped by and picked up baked goods from Bunners several times in the last two years. We live over an hour away from Toronto, come to the city about 1x a month but we always try to make a point to stop by and pick up a favourite vegan treats and order a cake, treats for birthdays and special occasions and make the drive to pick it up. Although the cake was yummy it was very lacking in frosting overall (compared to the picture online on bunners site) as well as in between the layers. It looked nothing like the picture and the chocolate layer was also visibly less thick than the other two. Frosting should be proportional to the cake as it has on previous orders. The cake layers themselves were moist and yummy although the strawberry layer tasted quite artificial and not like strawberry. Such a birthday bummer especially considering the $112 price, travel time there and back (2hrs+) to pick up from southern Ontario and the fact we’ve had such good luck with you in the past when ordering smaller cakes. The usual attention to detail just wasn’t there. Very disappointing 😢 * as a baker myself I get that there’s a difference between a 6 inch or 9 inch cake, but the amount of frosting should be consistent despite the size of the cake UPDATE: Bunners replied with very little empathy toward the situation let alone an offer to make things right. Despite all the details and information provided and the obvious less than expected cake we received based on the photos provided. Very poor customer service for a repeat customer. Instead they offered a 15% discount on my next order. Sadly, we will not be ordering a cake from Bunners again because frankly, I don’t want to risk spending another $100+ on something and getting less than what is promised on their website after driving an hour there and back to pick up. Clearly they need to work on things. UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: Someone from client success (Lauren?) reached out to us was very apologetic for the gross overbite and offered a refund and recognized the small measure that was being made in the original response

I’m a frequent visitor at Bunners Bakery. My daughter and I really enjoy their baked goods. I ordered their 6 inch Strawberries and Cream cake for my daughters birthday celebration and picked it up yesterday afternoon. A few minutes after leaving the store, our car had to suddenly brake and the cake got slightly smushed on both sides. I went back to Bunner’s in hopes that they would at least attempt to fix the cake (it really wasn’t a difficult fix), but the service I received was not up to par. I was told there was nothing they could do, as their bakers were too busy and the damage had happened outside of the store. I completely understand that the damage was of no fault to Bunner’s, but I expected to receive some sort of sympathy and problem solving for my daughter’s birthday cake. There was zero empathy. I said I would pay them to fix it. They just made no attempt to help me. Not the service I would expect. Very disappointed.

Due to the fact that the bakeries in my vicinity couldn't guarantee no nuts cross contamination, I decided to get my son's first birthday cake from Bunners. We weren't necessarily in need of a vegan cake, but it came as a part of the package. What I want to mention is that the cake was horrible to cut (as photos show). The center crumbled in a pile, a lot stuck to the knife, and I was embarrassed of guests seeing that and the struggle of serving this beautiful looking cake in such condition! We needed the bigger size, so the cost was $98.95!! And $113 after delivery. For that price point, this was very very disappointing. The cake was stored in the fridge from the moment of delivery to the moment of singing "Happy birthday" so that wasn't an issue. I really have never had experience with vegan cakes before, but surely this isn't to be expected??

My rating is based PURELY on my experience. The goodies I ordered were good. I usually treat myself once a month to their yummy treats. I would occasionally get delivery to Kitchener ($29) to save myself the headache of driving into Toronto. I normally order from their location on Dundas (Junction) but it's been closed. My heart broke. Because I ABSOLUTELY HATE their customer service at their Kensington location. I dread everytime I have to call. The WORST customer service ever!!! Front staff are sometimes ok but only 15-20% of the time. Made an order for pickup. Wasn't told all the streets were closed for a parade that day. Called in to let them know we could not get to them. Staff member couldn't hear us and kept repeating that they could hear because of the noise on their end. Then move!!!! Could not make the hour & 20 min drive the next day before they closed. Called Tues to apologize and asked if I could add delivery. After being told 3 times I could not cancel my order because orders are already packed and made just for the order. I was not trying to cancel it but only to add delivery. Their website doesn't allow to purchase just delivery, which is understandable but should be able to be added on their end. The idiot that answered the phone CLEARLY was not listening to my request or trying to get my ordered delivered and that MAYBE they might help me find a solution. Finally asked them to stop talking so I could ask how can I go about having my order, that I wasn't canceling, I suggested a few options, like cancel the online order then reorder with delivery, but ship the box that was supposedly boxed already. After waiting 15 min, they came back to tell me they called their delivery service, for $192 and some odd change, they would deliver. Excuse me?! I said that is really unreasonable. They sat on the phone silent. Instead of trying to work with me, I was made to feel that my business was nothing & that they were not willing to help me figure out a solution. A devoted customer who puts up with their poor customer service, but was faithful to the second location, was left with no options. I wasn't trying to get new product, but to have my 2 day old order that was packed, sent to me. I wasn't asking for same day delivery, but just add to their next delivery date (which is the next day) I cancelled work, to drive down to pick it up. I had to WAIT for them to box my supposed "already packed order that could not be cancelled" Sad but definitely not going to be a returning customer after 2 1/2 years of being a raving customer, about their products (NOT their customer service) If you like being treated like your business doesn't matter to them, by ALL MEANS try them out! They do have good versions of Jo' Louis and cake cookies & muffins. Cheesecake, not the best, cakes look beautiful but not the...

I have a gluten, dairy, soy allergy, which makes finding yummy fresh baked goods extremely difficult and stressful. My gluten allergy is most severe so i have found going to Bunners over the last 14 years quite soothing to my celiac cross contamination anxietys. It makes me feel so in control to just go in see all these amazingly delicious sweets and be able to confidently select one without having to worry about gluten in the establishment, amazingly freeing!! I love that they post their ingredients on their website as for my other intolerances so i can check out which new products to try. My absolute go-to dessert would be their Josephine Louis, brings back childhood nostalgia of cramming down joe Louis with my brothers before our mum came home! They had this pastry that had whipped creme and jam in the middle and made me instantly remember the taste of “Flakies” as well!!! It’s just such a joy! I could go on with more favs like their pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. And have ordered a bunch of the cakes for family celebrations. The truth is with gluten free goodies that alot of the time you get dry over-sugared dense, tasteless items but Bunners is always steeped in flavor and fresh. If you have any people that have food allergies in your life i highly recommend you either take them to Bunners or write down all their food allergies bring it into Bunners and the staff will help you select a special treat. Thanks Bunners staff for hanging around and feeding me and my mums tummy with allergy friendly goodies all these years! Keep up the good work and see you soon!!! Also my favorite is that they are peanut safe so even my nephew who has a peanut allergy is able to share a sweet moment with my mum who is celiac being able to use their at home cupcake...
