Someone who has previously reviewed this place had mentioned that it "lives up to its reputation". I would like to add that this is DEFINITELY true. And the owner stamps his impactfulness through his delicious food and excellent customer skills.
My girlfriend got the in-store novelty sandwich called "The Chicken Place". This delicious panini pressed sandwich is almost a foot long and is filled with a saucy garlic based mixture of moist shredded chicken accompanied with just the right amount of sliced cucumbers. I pretty much finished half her sandwich before she even got a chance to take a bite of hers.
Since it was my first time here, I went with a "can't go wrong choice" of their in house chicken fingers and fries. It comes with plum sauce but you can also ask for their special Piri Piri sauce. They were actually incredible.
They have a well stocked drinks fridge and there is plenty of parking and seating. The place just had the owner, Michael when we went on a Friday around 5. The place is closed on Saturdays and Sundays and you can see the busy times to estimate how long your wait time for food may take. They are most busy every afternoon they are open.
Last thing I will mention is that my girlfriend was eating her sandwich slowly because she had burnt her mouth earlier when drinking her coffee. Mike picked up on this, and offered to bring her anything else from the menu on the house in case it was not up to our liking. It was a nice gesture, and although we didn't need to take up on this offer, I asked him why he made the offer. The owner mentioned that he often makes the same offer to a lot of his customers in case they got something that they weren't craving. He proceeded to recount fondly of a customer who was the only one took up on the offer because he wanted more of a shwarma in addition to the famous "chicken place sandwich".
Great guy, great place. Would highly...
Read moreHave you ever driven past a restaurant and everytime you pass you wonder?
Well that is what I did a while back and have had no regrets!
The food is a total hit with my family.
It is close to my work and my kids activities.
It is in walking distance of Paramount Ice and from Discovery Gymnastics.
The Chicken Place sandwich with garlic mayo and pickles and rotisserie chicken cooked in a sub bun, pressed in a panini is SO tasty.
The garlic mayo is subtle but has a kick.
The chicken Greek salad is another favourite
They also have chicken fingers which is a hit with my kids who can be picky.
In the pre-COVID times, we used to eat at the restaurant and I have had more than a few business meetings here.
The crowd is diverse, being in an industrial area.
You never know who will come through the doors.
When you are there, make sure to engage the owner, Michael in conversation. He is a font of knowledge and is very approachable.
Whenever people come in, he will tell people to let them know what they think about their food and is genuine about making something else if they don’t like it. (Something you don’t often hear in restaurants.)
The French fries here are the best. The serving is generous.
On the healthier end, they have salads like creamy and non creamy coleslaw.
They have potato salad, pasta salad, chick pea salad, green eggplant, cauliflower and broccoli.
Depending on when you come by, it can be a take-home dinner.
So if you are driving down Alness toward Finch by The Chicken Place, make sure to make the turn into the plaza. It will be a good decision. I’m pretty sure you’ll be coming by and thankful for letting your curiosity get the...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place as it seems they have a good selection of freshly prepared sides and decent reviews too however it’s pretty poorly run and not the best I’ve tasted either.
They can’t seem to handle any amount of customers and seemed to struggle very much with just taking orders and getting payment. I saw a total of 6 customers and they struggled intensely with that number. One guest almost got a free meal and only didn’t because they spoke up. The guessing game of who got what order isn’t something I’ve seen in many establishments, there appeared to be a few misses with the orders before mine as well.
For a place that basically only does chicken fries/rice and cold sides it shouldn’t take as long as it does to get a simple meal. I ended up getting 1/4 chicken with what was supposed to be two sides but all I got was white bland rice so the meal is EXCEPTIONALLY plain. I purchased an extra side of potato salad and thankfully I did because I’d be stuck eating plain chicken and white rice otherwise. I tipped a fair bit too thinking the food would be good and the boy at the counter forgot that I had even paid so it was a bit of an awkward exchange. Especially considering this is my first time trying this place it really didn’t give me much incentive to go back.
Honestly was super excited to try this place but I won’t bother going back unfortunately. I paid $27.50 for the meal you see below which isn’t that great a value in my opinion; the chicken is pretty dry as you can see in the pic and there is ZERO bbq...
