First time trying this restaurant as well as the uyghur cusinse heard lots of good things online and saw many mouth watering photos on Instagram. Came here for me and my wife's aunts birthdays . The food was spectacular we had a array of different dishes started with the eggplant dip which was reminiscent of a baba ghanouj with a twist was very good. We had the samsa which were absolutely amazing simple yet bold flavor if you're familiar with burek from turkish or Balkan cuisine you will love the samsa we also had the dumpling which were a lil bland to my liking but still weren't bad at all. There was about 6 of us so each had a different dish and we shared . I had the jungal kebab and the meat was delicious grilled just rite tender and flavorful it was lamb was very impressed . My wife had the spicy noodles very good a little oily but super flavorful and nice portion I think my favorite thing was the special uyghur pasta and the lamb ribs omg! The lamb ribs were something else sooo juicy and tender absolutely amazing the plov is top.notch as well probably my second favorite thing as I love rice but I think it was made from a combo of rice and cracked wheat but don't quote me none the less was lovely. My only criticism was the service mind you it was Saturday evening and the place was full and there were quite a few other birthday celebrations. So I understand why the service was a little off they were a little overwhelmed but that's ok. The owner was really friendly he brought us melons and water melons with our tea and birthday cake. Very nice man came to check on us a few times and asked us how we enjoyed the food . Good hospitality great atmosphere and decor definitely a good place for a date night to impress your lady friend :) . All and all had a great time great experience and most definitely will go back again to try more menu items Thanks ogyuz for a great night and a great first Impression to the...
Read moreThis Xinjiang restaurant near North York is an absolute gem! The owners and servers—most of whom seem to be from Xinjiang—are incredibly warm and welcoming (e.g a server named Mudan) making the experience feel authentic and inviting. This is already my second visit, and I’ll definitely come back again!
The moment you step inside, it feels like you’ve been transported to Xinjiang. Every corner of the restaurant exudes exotic charm and cultural details.
Highlights of the dishes: Baked Lamb Buns (Kao Bao Zi): The flaky crust is crispy, and the lamb filling is tender without any gaminess. There’s even a burst of juicy broth inside—absolutely fragrant and delicious. Polov (Zhua Fan): The rice is perfectly cooked, with sweet carrots and a hint of raisins. It pairs beautifully with the grilled meat, balancing out the richness of the lamb with a touch of sweetness. Dondoor Kebab (Nan Kang Rou): Perfect for meat lovers! The exterior is charred just right, while the inside remains juicy and tender—satisfying in every bite. Mixed Grill Platter: A must-try if you want variety. This platter includes lamb, beef, and chicken, so you can savor all the flavors at once. It also comes with polov and naan bread—great value and taste. Homemade Yogurt: Another must-order! The yogurt is creamy and tangy, topped with pine nuts, pomegranate seeds, and a drizzle of honey—refreshing and perfect to cleanse the palate.
To top it all off, we were treated to a complimentary glass of pomegranate juice from the owner. It was ice-cold, lightly sweet, and very refreshing.
Overall, a wonderful dining experience with fantastic food and warm hospitality. Highly recommended, and I can’t wait to...
Read moreOur visit to this restaurant on February 9th turned out to be a major disappointment.
Before we even had a chance to open the menu, a server enthusiastically recommended their new off-menu special—Lamb Ribs Dandoor—touting its crispy, fragrant exterior and incredible flavor. Caught up in the excitement, we agreed without asking for the price, assuming we were in for a treat. Alongside it, we ordered the Lamb Pilaf (Polvo) and Grilled Buns (Samsa) from the menu.
When the dish arrived, it was far from what we had expected. Instead of well-trimmed ribs with easily accessible meat, the lamb was served with bone and meat tightly fused together, making it frustratingly difficult to separate. It was an ordeal just to get a decent bite, and we ended up leaving a significant amount of meat behind simply because it was too hard to pick off. While the flavor itself wasn’t bad, it was nowhere near the level of excellence we had anticipated based on the glowing recommendation—it was fine, but forgettable.
The Polvo was another letdown—it arrived lukewarm, just barely edible. But what truly soured our experience was the moment we got the bill: the Lamb Ribs Dandoor was a staggering $78 CAD. That’s when it hit us—the warm hospitality and beaming smiles came at a hidden cost.
To be fair, the restaurant’s ambiance was well-crafted, with a distinct Uyghur cultural aesthetic that added to the experience. But after realizing the sales tactics at play and feeling misled by the dish itself, we couldn’t shake the sense of having been taken for a ride. We won’t be returning, and for anyone planning to visit, here’s our advice: when faced with an enthusiastic recommendation, be just as enthusiastic about asking...
