This place gets an instant five stars. I won't lie, there've been times where I've been disappointed by the food- day-old cannoli which shouldn't of been out, hard-as-brick garlic bread, cold sausage, crusty pasta (from sitting out so long), but this is the kind of place where you tolerate those things, because it's about more than just the food- it's the experience of visiting this neighbourhood institution, full of characters and history. Rocco alone is reason enough to keep visiting- that guy will put the biggest smile on your face no matter the time of day or night... and he'll be sure to hook you up with something extra. What a saint of a guy, seriously- not many people out there like him. My favourite are the times he just says "Let me take care of you" and stuffs the plate with the best-of, only charging me the price of a veal sandwich- absolute legend; the best! And sorry if I made it seem like the food is anything but great... I was merely pointing out that there's times when I stroll in semi-intoxicated at 3am looking for a late night fix and it's not 100% like it is earlier in the day... because when you go to Commisso's earlier in the day/evening, the food isn't good... it's GREAT... super duper great. I love all the pasta dishes and the sausage and veal, but my favourite things have always been the panzerotti's, which are hands down the best panzerotti's in the city, as well as the deli sandwiches. I've had a lot of panzerotti's in my day and can honestly say none come close to the ones they make at Commisso's... the dough is just tremendous and just the right combination of soft and chewy with a beautiful blistered crust. When you bite into one fresh out the frier, you're in heaven- it's a beautiful thing. And the deli sandwiches made by Rocco or any of the angels that work there are just something else. Simple and honest, but just incredible. This place is about the environment as much as anything- and while it may not be the Ritz Carlton, it feels good to sit at the tables on one of the mismatched chairs and watch CP24 while you scarf down one of Rocco's special plates and down a Brio... I would take that over almost any other dining experience anywhere, because it's 100% real and authentic in every possible way. After you've downed all the big boy stuff like an animal, ask Rocco nicely and he might make you some ice cream on a brioche- an Italian favourite... I hope this place stays open for many many decades more, because it's the spitting image of authenticity. The food is just amazing (when it's fresh), but the people are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreā ExcellentāļøMy favourites are chicken schnitzel on an Italian bun with minimal tomato sauce and sweet peppers (preferably orange or yellow), as well as, for dessert: lots of boxed vanilla-coloured cannolis to go.
My Greek friend loves this combination. The corresponding beverage whether, in-store or takeaway, is apricot juice. The large is usually purchased.
Once enroute to my specialist's appointment, as a gift, inclusive of my other treats, two small bottles of this apricot beverage and a box of treats did include in-house custard tarts. Thank you was be spoken numerous times. The small white bag was placed on the matching credenza. It seemed as if it was Christmas, however, it was hot outside.
Behaviour must be orderly and appropriate. Etiquette must be exercised by all. We are all in this šŗ together.
My enduring customer loyalty is close to the half century mark. My birthplace is Hungary ššŗ. In the past three and one-half years, my ability is to sing in five (5) languages inclusive of English, Hungarian, š®š¹ Italian, French and Spanish.
About three (3) years ago, one of my original goals was to be able to fluently converse in Italian. Here finally, information was conveyed that there is a tremendous number of dialects. For every two (2) step forward, it seems like one (1) step back.
I always feel one hundred percent (100%) safe, satied and sound.
Lonesomeness is eradicated as we are all supportive, complimentary; might it be uttered insanely funny and goofy. However, it is in essence, a caring attitude that does bind us as human beings.
Commisso's is one of Toronto's iconic establishments.āļøThank you šso very much to everyone, and also, for all the reminiscences and day-to-day kindnesses bestowed. One and all are always welcome; winter, spring, summer and fall. Friendliness abounds. šAll is vastly...
