I wanted to like this place. I really did. the location is great, and who doesn't want more fried chicken in their life? Also, I always want to root for small businesses starting out. BUT Daddy's did not impress. In this neighbourhood, we have some really good chicken (Birdies & Dave's to name the two best). To be fair, this probably curves the grade. A good fried chicken joint needs to wow, but this was underwhelming.
Let's start with the good: The crinkle cut fries were good and the deep fried pickles have a nice hint of dill Also, the portion sizes were great. All true and all solidly in the positive camp.
Okay, the bad: The chicken was bland as hell. It tasted like a half-step up from KFC, but with less secret herbs and spices. My wife got the 'hot' and she loves hot food and the hot was somehow both bland and mouth blisteringly spicy. If that oddly excites you, put that in the good category I guess?
The bread was dense, like a sad, little, wet pillow.
The service was casual, but not in a relaxed, 'welcome to our chicken place' kind of way - more in a 'I have somewhere else to be' kinda way.
There was only one guy working in the kitchen. This might also explain how our food took twenty minutes to be ready.
Oh, also the chicken was luke-warm. It's entirely possible it was only heated by the myriad fries that were scattered in the bag alongside it. My wife says there was" no warmth to the chicken at all', but this feels more like a personal attack than a restaurant review.
I want to add, perhaps we got them on an off day. It happens. People should always give small local businesses a chance. But this was theirs and we're out.

Read moreCame in on Friday night. Girl working was very pleasant and some regulars that were there were very friendly. Said to the young lady working there that that I will have the original chicken sandwich with coleslaw on the side instead of on. No problem at all. She's said I hope you are hungry because the sandwich is huge. I said I'll have it all white meat. No problem at all. Paid $15 even for the sandwich. While waiting, I seen in their store window they compare sandwich sizes with some others out there. Got my sandwich and went home. My sandwich consisted of two chicken strips covered in a nice brioche bun. Anyone who has had a Fearless meats grilled or breaded chicken clucker for $8.99 would know what a chicken sandwich is in taste and size and know what I am getting at here. The sandwich from Daddy's was tasty, but nowhere close to huge or better than what they were advertising against others for $15 that I paid and not even half the size of Fearless Meats chicken sandwiches grilled or breaded. Maybe it was a bad experience for me on a first visit. I think I will give you another try, but I will have it in house and let it be judged on the spot. Even if the next one is double what I got the first time, $15 is still not worth it. I support a lot of small business shops and restaurants, but you've gotta be fair. If your rent is too high, then you move to compensate. Lots of suppliers out there too. Thanks, but my first experience...
Read moreCame here for dinner last weekend.
We got the Classic and the Big Daddy, with sides of fries and mac and cheese.
A couple things to mentioned.
has a conditional pass for DineSafe, couldn’t find out to why it was just conditional. No air conditioning, eating a hot meal in a hot room isn’t ideal default for all chicken is dark meat, white meat is a $2 surcharge all chicken is cooked fresh to order which is nice, but be prepared to wait 15+ mins for your food. sign out front with menu items that weren’t on the menu inside, the menu inside we were informed they were out of several items.. confusing and overwhelming.
The sandwiches overall are huge! But you do pay for it, it’s not cheap with sides and drinks. For what we ordered it was about $60.
The classic was the way to go, felt most like your traditional chicken sandwich.
Fries were very salty.
Mac and cheese was good, freshly grated Parmesan on top which was nice
The big daddy was just way too big, couldn’t finish it. Doused in caso fake cheese. Would have preferred less of that and the chicken tossed in a hot sauce with pickles. Ideally I should have ordered something else.
Would return, but would order ahead, bring my own drinks, skip the sides, review the menu closer and order...
