This was my first visit to Darna. I would love to keep this place to myself but this place deserves to be known as one of Toronto's best restaurants!
Had mint tea as my drink, I drink alcohol and there is alcohol available just thought the vibes called for mint tea. For the starter me we had the Darna Sampler, the pita was freshly made and hot. The three dips are the perfect introduction to this restaurant. The hummas was our favourite, followed closely by the Labneh. I don't think I'm a fair reviewer of the mutabal because I'm not the biggest fan of eggplant but this was still excellent and worth trying if you haven't liked eggplant in the past.
For the mains we enjoyed the Shawarma and Sujuk Shuka. I got one bite of the Shawarma plate and it was excellent but I won't review that because I didn't taste the full dish. I had the Sujuk Shuka and the flavours were perfect. I haven't had this dish before but this won't be the last time! The combination of the sausage with the tomatoes, garlic, peppers were sublime. The egg on top, requested medium and done to perfection, was the taste that brought the whole dish together.
And dessert....wow! We were offered a complimentary dessert, after we had already ordered the Kunafah. We picked the date walnut pudding. The pudding was too sweet for me but was still delicious. The show stopper was the Kunafah. Made with kataifi dough and perfectly balanced with it's sweetness level between the cheese and the rose water....just wow.
Darna has an incredible chef and a great staff and this restaurant deserves to be full every night!
I'm sorry for the lack of photos, I don't have any. It was because the ambiance and the food was so good I didn't want to remove myself from the experience of this wonderful restaurant. Do yourself a favour and make a reservation for Darna. It's worth the visit to Bayview Village for...
Read moreMy husband and I ordered $185 from the Bayview location on Uber Eats and it was HORRIBLE. We definitely received spoiled food. The Siadiyeh (Seabass fish) smelled and tasted very fishy. I could smell it from afar! I only took a small bite and it was disgusting. It was obviously a fish that has gone bad. Imagine paying $37 for this. We had to throw away the whole dish. The same applied to the kunafah, which had a sour smell and taste. Exactly like spoiled cheese. The mutabal also tasted oddly sour. The meat and chicken from the mixed grill were tasteless, as if they hadn't been seasoned. On top of that, they were so dry and the chicken was partially burnt. The sides for the main dishes were also very disappointing. The fried onions were all soggy and tasted like old fried oil. The potatoes were not fully cooked inside, dry and tasteless. We were only able to eat few small appetizers like the hummus but we paid close to $200 only to end up throwing away almost everything. Not only I had to cook for my husband because he barely ate, but I was also nauseous for hours from those few bites. This was unacceptable and I felt totally scammed. I reached out directly to the restaurant and a lady named Marwa didn't want to refund me anything. Instead, she wanted to offer me a $100 gift card to try their restaurant again! How is this fair that they kept our money after delivering spoiled foods?! This is pure greed. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. I'm giving 2 stars for the service only because the Uber driver was fine and has nothing to do with the...
Read moreMy recent visit to Darna Middle Eastern Kitchen was deeply disappointing and distressing. From the moment my spouse and I entered, we felt an unwelcoming atmosphere. It was clear that our presence was not appreciated, solely based on the fact that we are not of Middle Eastern descent.
The staff exhibited blatant prejudice, making no effort to disguise their discomfort with serving customers from a different racial background. Such discriminatory behavior is unacceptable and completely tainted our dining experience.
Despite the unwelcoming environment, in a customary gesture of goodwill, I left a tip. However, reflecting on the entire experience, I deeply regret doing so. It feels like my attempt to maintain civility was in stark contrast to the hostility we faced.
While I cannot comment on the quality of the food, as our experience was overshadowed by the poor treatment we received, I feel compelled to warn others. A restaurant's success is not only measured by its cuisine but also by the hospitality and respect it extends to all customers, regardless of their background.
In a world where inclusivity should be the norm, Darna Middle Eastern Kitchen's approach is not only outdated but deeply concerning. I strongly advise others to avoid this establishment at all costs. Supporting businesses that practice discrimination only perpetuates a cycle of intolerance and injustice.
I hope they reflect on this feedback and make the necessary changes to ensure that all patrons are...
