There were so many red flags to this restaurant. I will list them out so you don’t have to come and experience it yourself.

I had a reservation for 5 people and the restaurant sat us at a corner of the restaurant on the 2nd floor, where it was supposed to be for a table of four people. The table was super squished and it was right beside the kitchen as well. The staffs kept walking by and hitting us as we were eating. First red flag, but they really should not be seating people there at all.

During our first interaction, my family and I had to wave down one of the employees to let them know that we wanted to order. I guess she overheard us talking about how squished we were at the table. Before we were even able to order, she yelled at us saying “We have no room and cannot move you to another reserved table”. I had to clarify with her that we knew and we just wanted to order, but she was extremely rude to us. Second red flag. Honestly we should have ran this point.

We ordered their well known Peking duck set because of the social media rave. Because we were seated at the corner of the restaurant, she was going to initially do the Peking duck carving away from us, which I thought defeated the purpose of the whole experience. We had to negotiate to get her to put it up on the counter to carve it for us. To put the cherry on the top too, one of my family member had to sit aside in order to see the carving. This is another reason why this table should not even exist for guests. Third red flag, but at this point, we were too far in to leave.

As well, the Peking duck combo says it is the whole duck, but I felt like the lettuce wrap part didn’t have much meat. It was on top of a pile of rice cracker. Fourth red flag, but not certain where the whole duck went to be honest.

As we were finishing our meal, our family was just talking over our dinner. One of the staff proceeds to come and take away only two people’s dishes. We were not even done our meals yet. My husband had to use my cutlery to eat the rest of the food on the table… Fifth red flag. You can even see in the picture, he was using my cutlery to eat the lobster. We honestly felt rushed to leave at this point.

We were waiting for our dessert that was a part of the meal. Honestly at this point, I felt like the staff was not going to give us our house dessert if I didn’t intentionally asked for it. Sixth red flag and yes, I’m clearly blind at this point.

Needless to say, I will not be coming back to this restaurant. The food was fine, but because of the terrible service, my family and I just left with a distasteful feeling. What a sad way to ruin a possibly good Asian...

Had the 50$ promotion for Peking duck with my family. For all the marketing behind it I thought that there would be better food. It was mid across the board.

The Peking duck was fine, but it was a bit dry and the set came with only 6 crepes (additional 6 pancakes is 6$ which is super expensive!) the portions of hoision sauce and veggies was extremely small as well. The lettuce wraps weren't as flavourful as I expected, it feels too westernized compared to the Chinese cuisine that I grew up eating at home and in China. This was the same with the Shanghai Noodles we ordered, no spice or depth of flavour it just tasted salty with some soy.

I was also surprised that there was no tea offered as a drink (only ice water) as a traditional Chinese restaurant would always have both hot tea and water on offer and we didn't get any water until we asked for it. The tea that we did end up receiving was also from a tea bag and not loose leaf! If I'm going to be paying for tea I would hope that it would at least be high quality loose leaf, but from the tea bag it was clear it was only fannings.

We also got a lunch set to share, but among the complementary drinks they only had hot tea, so we weren't even able to order a hot milk tea or coffee and did not feel like paying a 2$ uncharge for an iced drink. The waitress was very curt about it and almost felt like she swiped the menu away from me before I could get to ordering the drink, saying they only had tea and not even giving me the chance to consider other drinks. I feel if that 2/3 of the combo options which are free aren't avaliable you should either tell the customer upfront before we look at the menu or at least offer one of the other items at a discount. It just felt incredibly poorly thought out.

The price is obviously still good, but I would definitely never go back for anything at full price. If you want proper Chinese cuisine at affordable prices there are so many more places in Richmond Hill and Markham which are...

Searching for a good Peking duck around Toronto and decided to give this place a try. I am very surprised and impressed by the quality and service.

The Peking duck comes with the regular sides and a complimentary second course of lettuce wraps. It is served tableside, where the waitress sliced the duck into proper portions. The duck itself is incredible, where the skin is slightly crispy and the meat is still juicy. It comes with the proper sides, i.e. sugar for the skin, sweet bean sauce, cucumber batons and the white portion of green onion slices for the steamed crepes. This is quite authentic as I was expecting a Canadian localized version of Chinese food.

The lettuce wraps can take a while to be served, so remember to save space while enjoying the meal. It's decent, except that the duck is fried with a little too much sauce, making it too sweet, even eaten as filling for lettuce wraps.

The fried salt and pepper tofu is excellent. It's crunchy with strong garlic and pepper flavour. The fine diced bell pepper absorbed the salt and spices, which takes some flavour away from the tofu cubes. When eaten together with tofu, it is excellent.

Additionally, I got a crispy beef and asked for extra spicy. The flavour is mainly sweet and slightly spicy (chilli oil). It is quite delicious, but I would try other dishes when I come back.

I also ordered a beef ho fen, a standard dish to check the quality of a Cantonese restaurant. The noodle itself could be fried a little more to get some wok hei. The sauce tastes mostly soy sauce, I would like it if oyster sauce were added. The beef slices were tender and marinated well. I think this is an okay dish, again would not order again.

Overall, I am very glad to have tried the Peking duck here. I would highly recommend my friends to...

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Jing, an authentic Chinese restaurant. From the moment we entered, we were greeted with a warm and inviting ambiance that set the stage for an enjoyable culinary journey. Our server, Lyn, was exceptional in every way. She provided us with excellent recommendations, ensuring our meal would be a memorable one. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for the menu truly reflected the passion that the staff at Jing have for their cuisine. For starters, we ordered the General Tao, Pekin Duck, spring rolls, cucumber salad, and chicken dumplings. Each dish was a perfect balance of flavors and showcased the chef's expertise in Chinese cuisine. The General Tao had just the right amount of heat, while the Pekin Duck was tender and succulent. The spring rolls were crispy and packed with deliciousness, and the cucumber salad provided a refreshing and tangy contrast to the other dishes. The chicken dumplings were a delight, with a delicate wrapper and a flavorful filling. To end our meal on a sweet note, we indulged in the fried banana dessert. I must admit, it was the perfect finale to our dining experience. The bananas were perfectly caramelized and paired wonderfully with the accompanying sauce. It was a delectable and satisfying end to an already delightful meal. Overall, Jing exceeded all expectations as an authentic Chinese restaurant. The combination of outstanding service from Lyn, along with the exceptional food, made our visit truly memorable. I highly recommend Jing to anyone looking for an authentic and enjoyable Chinese culinary experience.
