very mediocre food for the price, very inattentive and apathetic waitstaff. our server didn't greet us or say hi, just jumped straight to "what do you want to drink?". I had trouble accessing the online menu and when I told him that, he shrugged and walked away. he also never came over to see if we liked everything or needed anything, and he then walked away mid-payment to talk to his friend who had just showed up. they billed us wrong 3 separate times, and they missed one item of food completely so we didn't end up getting it at all after waiting 20 mins and finishing all our other food, and leaving still hungry. the food was also really expensive for what it was. a small bowl of fries for $7? no thanks. the avocado and tofu bowl pictured was fine but not worth the $14. overall, extremely unimpressed with the waitstaff, and the food is nothing to write home about. will not be returning.

Last Saturday, I went back to my favorite bar in downtown Toronto with a friend to escape the rain. The atmosphere here is always amazing, and the bartenders, especially Hayley, were super friendly and talented. They really made our night special. The music was okay, but I still have a soft spot for the 80's playlist they had last year. Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the rosemary fries. They were absolutely fantastic, bursting with incredible flavors. This bar has become my go-to spot downtown. The vibes are always amazing, the service from the talented bartenders (a big shout-out to Hayley!) is outstanding, and the unforgettable rosemary fries make it a must-visit for anyone who wants to have a great time in the city center.

I had the pepperoni pizza, and it was SHOCKINGLY GOOD. I also had a slice of my friends mushroom pizza, and while I'm not generally big on mushrooms, this was exquisite. The crust was phenomenal on both. Our waiter, Henry, was an absolute peach. We just wanted a quick bite before the Randy Feltface show nearby, and man, I am going to travel all the way back here from my little hole in North York, just for another dang pizza. WOW. (sorry about the mostly empty photo, it was so good I forgot to take a "before" picture.

Wasn't going to write a review but the more I think people need to be warned. There are better options around with better service and amazing food. Scroll down to the bottom for some suggestions.

  1. We wanted to sit close to a window. The seat cushions need a good cleaning, I could have pushed passed that but the tables were dirty. We had no other choice but to sit in a dark area in the back.
  2. Male waiter was nice enough but the blonde waitress was awful (did not get a name). I noticed the blonde waitress was waiting on everyone else, which didn't bother me until the end.
  3. Party of 10 came in, blonde waitress was suddenly eager to wait on them. She asked the group not only what type of drinks they wanted but if they wanted, spicy, mild, sweet etc,. she was the one to ask.
  4. I noticed when she walked by she stared hard at our table and then it all made sense. Blonde waitress was being so nice to the party of 10 because of the tips she would be receiving at the end. I think she was looking at our table because we had order a lot for 2 people. I guess we did not look like the type that would have ordered so much food and her tip would have been good.
  5. My sister asked for the cheque from the blonde waitress and she was all to happy to go get. I paid with card and my sister paid with cash. She did not return my sisters change and pocketed it. When my sister asked for her change back, she replied, "Oh, you want your $1.40." Excuse me! SHE DID NOT WAIT ON US AT ALL. I hope that my tip went to the guy that did wait on us?!?! My sister went up to the guy that waited on us and gave him her tip, I am not that gutsy.

Whoever, does the hiring you need to fire that waitress or at least show her proper etiquette. I may have looked like a bum that night, I was dressed according to the way I felt. We only went there to try something new, I like beer and I thought they would have flights, which they did not, but did have a good selection.

I could have easily come in with a party of 10 but will never after this experience.

If you want better options around there, I highly recommend Hello123 (vegan but very delicious) and Bar Poet. I don't live in the area but would travel in for these 2.

The only good thing at Death and Taxes is there...

Went to D&T for the first time tonight. Saw our server for the initial drink and food orders, then never saw her again. It started to rain, and people that came after us were offered places inside, while we were left outside. We were the only table with a Black person at it as well (me).

When it started to rain harder, I went to ask if we could move inside and the one guy told me there wasn’t any room, but he could move the umbrellas for us (which were cloth and no help). I said we’re just going to pay and get going and he was like “ok well SORRY” with an attitude.

Our server never came back bc it turns out she was behind the bar, and we asked if we could finish our drinks in the doorway at least and the guy who eventually took over started to say “let me just check” until the lightning struck and then we just went inside anyways.

Then, staff and patrons alike were laughing at us and making fun of us when we got a $100 bill to not really be served and be left outside. When we came in, we were drenched. Suffice it to say, will never come back. Terrible first impression and not great folks working there aside from the one guy bringing...

I visited for brunch on their patio shortly after it reopened in stage 2 of Covid-19 reopening. We had a delicious brunch, chicken & waffles and their D&T 2 egg breakfast! The experience for us was good and they are doing their best in a hard time. Definitely needs more umbrellas for these hot summer days; 3-4 of the tables are in direct sunlight which was hard on some of the other people.

The food was excellent! The waffles were crisp and not too sweet, amazing fried chicken and they have Mable's sourdough bread with the 2 egg breakfast. Overall worth it and I was surprised to see normal, pre-pandemic prices!

My partner and I got a seat at one of the picnic bench tables that had some shade which was lucky. Our server was so great and brought our dog some water! She was working alone so the service was slow but I can't fault her for that.

There was a belligerent customer who our server handled exceptionally well. She should not have had to deal with that but she handled him like a champ.

I'll probably come here instead of the Drake...
