Realizing how long this post is after writing it, here is a quick summary- packaging and visuals: 5/5 tastes, textures: 5/5 service: 5/5 value for price: 5/5
In short, I REALLY enjoyed my experience with Delysees :)
This bakery absolutely lives up to its name of luxury desserts! If you want to spoil someone and make them feel extra special, you’ll want to get them Delysees. My experience with them from beginning to end, was incredible.
I had several questions about different items online and they were very quick to respond which helped with my ordering.
I also had the pleasure of receiving items both via delivery and in-store. First, I loved the communication I received from the delivery driver - not sure if it’s the norm or mine just happened to be exceptional that day but he called me before arriving, giving me about 10 mins head’s up, plus he was super friendly.
From the moment I was handed the gorgeous black and gold bag, I felt assured that the person to whom I was gifting would be impressed and love it at first sight! Definitely got, “ooh”s and, “ah”s when boxes were opened too. The base on which the desserts were placed were even customized with the store’s signature black and gold design matching the bag and box instead of a generic cardboard/silver cake base being used.
Each item inside was beautiful and seemed to be handled with the utmost care. Didn’t see a single weird, out of place lump on these desserts!
Taste and textures were exquisite. I really loved that the pastries werent just super sweet sugar bombs. I find that some places just make raspberry flavoured things overly sweet and loses all its tartness but found that theirs was a perfect balance. (passionfruit is also super yummy here!)
I was pleasantly surprised with the larger than expected portion sizes. Some fancy places give you these annoyingly small bite sizes. Treats here mostly seem to be a decent shareable size (depending how good u are at sharing haha).
Some of the individual desserts I had were placed on a biscuit base which I think is a really fun, thoughtful touch. Most places just place things on a piece of cardboard/foil, but Delysees throw in an extra little, bonus cookie - I dont think it’s meant to be part of the main feature but you can def eat it with a cup of tea.
Also had a chance to stop by their cafe (sidebar, location is across the street from a popular Toronto brewery so if anybody needs to try and convince their partner who enjoys beer to visit Delysees, you get desserts and they can pick up some beer!) - super cute inside, clean and elegant decor, in-store staff also very warm and welcoming.
Price is very reasonable compared to other similar style Toronto bakeries but Delysees has one of the best packaging. One of the cakes I ordered was only $50 - unique flavour combo that wasn’t offered anywhere else (coconut, chocolate, raspberry YUM!), comfortably serves 10 people. Other ones I found at that price point only served 6 so I would have to get a larger size but then I would be charged $20+ more.
If i had one crticism, it would be that their website doesn’t share all the info that I needed (eg, ingredients due to allergies, care instructions because some items weren’t going to be eaten same day) so I had to contact them but again, they’re SUPER responsive so not really a problem (and on par w other bakery websites I searched lacked similar info). Also, I personally like being able to see what a cake looks like inside (eg, layers) and not many cakes have that picture avail online (neither do other bakery websites) but I decided to take a chance and am soooo happy that I did!
I have no doubt that I will be ordering from here again...
Read moreI recently visited this location after being in the Ossington area around 8pm yesterday (Sept. 30). Despite being in my work scrubs after finishing dinner in that area with a friend, the service I received was quite disappointing. The female staff member on duty seemed to ignore us for at least 5 minutes before I felt compelled to get her attention. I have read a previous review from this past summer so it doesn’t seem like it’s been the first time. It was so bad that she made eye contact with us several times and said nothing. I had to start tapping my fingers on the counter (unfortunately), for her to even bother to look up, even after all the exchanges of eye contact she made with us. I couldn’t even slip a moment to say “excuse me”, since she would just hurriedly walk to the opposite end to perhaps avoid us before we got fed up and would walk out. I think maybe that’s what she wanted; for us to get tired of waiting for her and for us to walk out. That was the complete vibe at least because that was how long she had us standing there for. This lack of acknowledgment made me question if my work attire influenced the poor service. Mind you, I’m in immoderate navy blue scrubs and an open knit beige cardigan. She was previously busy with a group of elders who were also dining in. However, still made me wait for another four minutes without acknowledgment. A simple, “I’ll be right with you in a couple of minutes,” could have sufficed. I am a nurse; my apologies if I was in my navy blue work scrubs. I had a long day and all I wanted was a piece of dessert! While I did still purchase a dessert (my friend did not since she was so turned off by the service), the overall customer service was subpar; not even a simple offer of water was extended during my visit, not even checking in to ask me how I liked everything, etc., She also had no issue (as also someone previously mentioned), with acknowledging everyone else though. It did feel like discrimination because maybe I looked way younger than my age, being 40. If you have cameras in your establishment, please review them, as there is no exaggeration on my part (check between 7:55pm-8:08pm). I hope for improved training and attention to customer needs for a more welcoming experience in the future, if I ever decide to...
