My sister and I hosted a farewell party here last weekend on Dec 3. This was an important event to us as my sister is moving away overseas at the end of the year. Deciding on this bar was truly the worst decision, and I’d recommend that anyone contemplating going to this bar to strongly reconsider. There were a multitude of issues:
The music level in the adjacent room was extremely loud, yet we were asked to keep our music level down. This makes absolutely no sense and when I asked very directly about this, the female bartender was extremely rude and didn’t provide an adequate response or rationale for the discrepancy I pointed out. I asked to clarify this with the bar manager and she wouldn’t call him for me. She asked me to go find him myself? How am I to figure out who the bar manager is? I have never met them before. Unbelievable.
Further, other people asked the same question and she was just as rude when communicating with them. She literally just said “yup” to one person who asked her “why is that the other/next door room can have the music louder?” Very poor etiquette/service standards for an establishment that is offering a social setting/event services to abide by. Take your guests more seriously and be interested in how to make their experiences in your bar the best they can be.
We requested a specific amount of guacamole and chips with a coordinator (Sandy) by way of email. My sister sent an email directly to him outlining this. However, when we got to the bar and let the bartender know, she was again dismissive and said that your bar only had 4 guacamole/chips left. Totally dismissive of the fact that we had placed the order in advance. Poor communication and coordination.
We requested a knife to cut a cake that I had brought to celebrate the promotion/farewell, and were told that the bar had no knives. A bar with no knives to provide upon request to its guests who have paid a decent amount to host an event there? This is bizarre and again in line with the inadequate and rude service I explained above. Take your role and service a bit more seriously and genuinely be interested in your guests’ experiences! We were forced to cut the cake with a plastic butter knife that we thankfully had brought with us.
Completely abhorrent and inadequate bar standards. Truly put a bad taste in our mouths. No proper response from the bar on this matter, and since the date of the party, have heard from many of our friends about the rude service...
Read moreI came here with some ladies on Friday night for dinner and a night out. It was super easy to make a reservation (through Yelp too). I choose this place because we had a vegetarian in our group and they had a lot of delicious choices. I liked the tapas style as well.
The food was okay. We ordered one of everything on the tapas menu. The shrimp diablo were good, as was the chorizo. I didn't care for the mushroom empanadas with the mushy filling. The stars for me were the guacamole, the mushroom quesadillas and the corn.
The service was lacking. Although it was a tapas menu, we were not provided plates or utensils. We had to ask, and were only provided napkins and forks. We didn't have a waiter at all. When we arrived we sat there for awhile and finally flagged someone down. She told us the "bar sign" was on (I looked for said sign, but didn't see one). We provided our food order, and were told she'd come back to check on us, but this did not happen. The only person the came was someone from downstairs to put the food on the table. It just irked me as we made a dinner reservation but we're not advised that there would be no service.
I'm not a huge tequila fan, but I tried the mango margarita and it was really tasty and smooth. I ended up having 3!
Anyway, I'd come back here for cocktails but I don't think I'd come...
Read moreWe stopped by to try cascabelbbq. We ordered the chicken, chorizo, beef brisket, pork belly tacos and the charcoal grilled shrimp. I would have to say that the tacos were okay.. none of them really stood out to me unfortunately but the grilled shrimp was perfecttttt! Shrimp usually makes me itchy whenever I eat it but I did not get an allergic reaction at all. The charcoal flavour was perfect without being overpowering and the aquachile sauce just complimented the shrimp so well! Even though they already tasted amazing on their own. Just a bit of constructive criticism: the tortilla chips that came with the plate were sooooo hard. It took me and my partner forever to chew and shallow :/ it also felt a little weird tipping as well when most things were self serve except for when the food is brought to you. We didn’t order any alcohol this time but I mostly saw people wait at the bar for their drinks and then bring them to the tables themselves. I do think the prices are a little high but maybe understandable because of the location and rent, we order didn’t guac + chips but i saw people ordering it, I feel like if you’re going to charge $15, you should definitely make the portions a little bigger. If you’re like me and got intrigued to check out cascabelbbq, definitely order the...
