TLDR: Food is bad, try anywhere else.
I originally came to this plaza to try a different restaurant, after having not eaten for almost 10 hours. However, the notion of Jerk Chicken inspired a last minute change of heart. And boy was it the wrong move.
I decided to play it safe and grab the Jerk Chicken Breast dinner plate but was told they didn’t have any breasts. Fair enough I thought and went for the Jerk Chicken Wrap. Within 5 minutes my food was ready (should have been the first red flag).
I get back to my car open up the wrap and the portion is massive! So massive that I can’t get a hold of this wrap. Luckily the cashier gave me a fork I whip that out. Only to realize there’s no knife, so I’m sitting there trying to cut this wrap using the power of erosion by running this plastic fork back and forth. Once I finally get it open, the taste of this chicken was definitely “aged” (not in a good way). There was so much roti from the wrap that no matter how sauced up the chicken was, it still felt dry.
I walked over to the Mary Browns to grab some of their gravy to go with the excess roti. Which brings me to the final point that destined this meal for the dumpster, and that was the amount of in the wrap. I understand if there’s little chicken bones that get missed. This chicken though, I had two bites only where I didn’t have to check whether the piece I was about to eat was hiding osseous matter under the meat.
Also forgot to mention, the 500ml coconut water was 5.50 + tax. That’s highway robbery.
Do your stomach and yourself a favour and go to the other restaurants in the plaza, and as far as Caribbean food goes, try any other place in Toronto, or better yet try making it yourself, I guarantee you’ll do a better job...
Read moreLocated on Weston Rd and Sheppard Ave west area, I have normally ordered by delivery but, I had some time so I decided on a pick up. This area is not familiar to me so I drove with apprehension as I didn't know where to turn but, it really was not complicated. It is a place with various stores and a good size lot for parking. I parked a bit away so walked in and it looked good a few people dining in eating their meals. I was greeted with a "hello" which is nice. No one else was at the counter at the time so I was ready to order. I ordered oxtail/Rice and Peas, for my side got a macaroni salad (with meal optional), and small beef soup as that was the soup of the day, plus macaroni pie. To be honest when I was ordering it didn't seem much as it was just what I wanted but, when I got home I was like what was I thinking!!! So much food, lol. Anyway, my first taste was the macaroni pie and I didn't like it. I don't know what it was whether I was in a mind overload but one bite and It was a no. So, I was annoyed as I wanted the pie to be good. I headed on to the meal the rice and peas/oxtail and macaroni salad. I normally would have finished my meal but another miss for me. The soup was good. It appeared oily but I guess the beef has its oil base but, Don Caribbean does really good soup the kind you slurp and just enjoy, lol. I don't want to knock anything down it could have just been that day or my taste buds but, I love their soup especially the chicken soup. I hope others have or had a...
Read moreI was a big fan of Don' Caribbean since I first found out the restaurant last Summer. I am in love with their Jerk chicken with rice and peas. I referred many friends and family to the restaurant. Not until this Xmas I decided to order a catering size of jerk chicken and rice costed $169 to the xmas party, which I was so sure that everyone will love it. When I picked up the order on Dec. 24, they seemed not sure of which order I made. I confirmed and after waiting for 5 mins, the people from the kitchen came out, nicely greeted me and offered me extra rice for free because I was patiently waiting. The lady there even opened the tray to check my order. I was so pleased with their services and didn't mind checking the order myself. It was a shock till the party started. They were just 2 big trays of grilled chickens without jerk chicken sauce. They were so dry that no one wanna to touch. I was so embarrassed and dissapointed.
However I considered it was just a mistake but hopefully they can be more cautious and improve their service with big catering orders. ...
