Came here for brunch, and I was sadly disappointed in the experience. I love Flipper's in Japan, but unfortunately this is not the same quality or food. Ordered the 2 Eggs Any Style and the "savoury" pancakes they served were awful. Probably the worse pancakes I have had at brunch in Toronto in a long time. My partner ordered the fresh fruit pancake, and the pancake were noticeably worse than the ones in Japan (less fluffy, less favourable). Fuwa Fuwa is honestly just better.
Longer review: If you ever have the privilege of visiting Flipper's in Japan, prepare to have your mind blown. The quality of the pancakes there are incredible, and I was so excited when a branch opened in Toronto.
But similar to Target's rollout in Canada, this restaurant really missed the mark. I ordered savoury meal with pancakes. To be honest, I didn't even know they sold a worse flat pancake version, but what arrived were perhaps the worst pancakes I have had in Toronto. The experience was like going to a fancy steakhouse and being unexpectedly served Beyond Meat. The question you would have is "sorry, who thought this was okay?".
Simple fix would be to allow + suggest guests to have the savoury meal with the option of souffle pancakes (or even better, remove the non souffle pancakes completely, because they are awful).
The souffle pancakes themselves were fine, but sadly worse than the ones in Japan. Less fluffy and less flavourful. Maybe I just got unlucky and the chef was having an off day, but I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone in Toronto out of fear they might not want to go visit the ones in Japan. Honestly, Fuwa Fuwa pancakes in Toronto are just better (though Flipper's Japan is still by far the best).
I would not recommend this...

I came here on a summery September, late morning. On my visit they had their soft opening menu with a sign outside and a beautiful storefront on a picturesque elm street. There's a flight of stairs to enter the restaurant so there are some physical access concerns.
During my visit, there were 4 tables full, but maybe 60% of the restaurant was still empty. They have a beautiful, naturally lit interior and the atmosphere feels warm and inviting.
I ordered the Eggs Benedict $21 and asked for a side of Truffle fries, and they said they could add it on without paying the full price for the side item since they would serve a lesser portion, but there was some miscommunication and I was served regular fries with ketchup.
The fries were okay, nothing special. The eggs Benedict was a huge portion and was very rich and filling. It was delicious and great that the bread was actually one of their pancakes but unsweetened. I ended up with leftovers and was able to take the rest to go!
I also ordered an iced tea ~$4-5 which I thought would be nestea-style, but it turned out to be English breakfast tea served on ice, which was a nice, healthier choice, although I felt it was expensive for the portion.
The staff was friendly, but nothing outstanding.
They have bench-table style seating with one long bench on one side and normal chairs on the other side. This allows for flexibility when dining with larger and smaller groups. They also have normal table seating with chairs only near the windows. I wasn't able to look into their back area, but it seemed they had 2 different areas for seating.
Overall, I'd return...
Read moreOur group of six colleagues recently had the pleasure of dining at Flippers Japanese Pancake Restaurant on Elm Street, and the experience was nothing short of phenomenal. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the inviting ambiance and the warm, friendly service.
Despite the bustling environment, we were seated and served promptly, which was much appreciated. The menu offered a delightful array of options, but we decided to sample a variety of dishes: the Strawberry Souffle Pancakes, Flippers Souffle Pancakes, Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, Eggs Benedict with Ham, and the Salmon with Cream Cheese Sandwich accompanied by French fries.
Each dish was a masterpiece. The souffle pancakes were airy, fluffy, and practically melted in our mouths. The Strawberry and Flippers Souffle Pancakes were particularly delightful, with just the right balance of sweetness and texture. The Lemon Ricotta Pancakes stood out for their refreshing citrusy flavor, perfectly complemented by the creamy ricotta. The Eggs Benedict with Ham was another highlight, featuring perfectly poached eggs and savory ham on a deliciously soft souffle pancake. The Salmon with Cream Cheese Sandwich was another highlight—savory, rich, and paired wonderfully with the crispy crinkled french fries.
Overall, our first experience at Flippers was amazing. The combination of exquisite food, excellent service, and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere made for an unforgettable dining experience. We highly recommend Flippers Japanese Pancake Restaurant for anyone looking to enjoy a delicious meal in Toronto. We will...
