If I could put zero stars, I would.
I’ve been to Funkeys Delicacies three times now, and each time the experience has gotten worse. • First visit (June): I placed a large order (over $300) to celebrate with my family. I drove all the way from Oshawa, came into an empty restaurant where the staff just stared at me until I greeted them first. They told me my order would take 30 minutes, but I ended up waiting 56 minutes. For such a large order (14 items), I was understanding — but a few items were missing from the bags, which I only noticed after getting home. I let it go. • Second visit (July): I came to dine in with just one other person. There were only about 5 other people inside, but it still took almost an hour for our food to come out. Service was poorer than the first time, but again, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. • Third visit (August 24): Today sealed it for me. I came in and the woman at the front just stared at me while busy on her screen. After standing there awkwardly for 2 minutes, I asked if I should come back later since she seemed busy. She told me “no,” so I placed a small order ($28). Only after I paid did she tell me it would be a 30-minute wait. I explained that’s why I asked earlier, because I couldn’t wait that long. She snapped back rudely, asking, “How long can you wait then?” I said 15–20 minutes, and she agreed.
After 21 minutes, I came back in, only to be told to “have a seat.” Confused, I waited an additional 20 minutes. Finally, I asked another worker about my order. She didn’t even know it existed, then said she’d check. She came back saying it would be “1 more minute.” That “1 minute” turned into another 10. When my order was finally ready, the original lady shoved the bag in front of my face and said, “Here.”
The attitude, rudeness, and lack of basic customer service are beyond unacceptable. Combine that with ridiculous wait times for mediocre food, and there’s just no reason to come back.
I genuinely tried to support this business — even because friends of mine know the owners — but enough is enough. They seriously need customer service training, and if wait times are this long, they need to hire more...
Read moreI visited this place based on the positive reviews of the video on TikTok , but to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. From the moment we walked in, it was clear that customer service was not a priority. We were seated at a table that had just been used, and no one made any effort to clean it. It took an unreasonably long time before anyone attended to us.
We asked for our food to come with our drinks, but everything arrived late . By the time we received water to wash our hands, the food had already started getting cold. Even then, there were no napkins, no drinking water, and no cups on the table — just empty space. To make matters worse, when our drinks finally came, we were already done eating, and my husband’s drink took an extra ten minutes after that.
When we asked for water, the waiter seemed surprised we didn’t already have cups — which just added to the confusion and poor service. We even had to ask multiple times to wash our hands, and it got to the point where our hands were drying out from waiting so long. We nearly went to the washroom just to get it done ourselves.
To be fair, the food itself wasn’t bad — I always give credit where it’s due — but the portion was incredibly small. Paying $36 for such a tiny serving of amala was honestly shocking.
Overall, the service was extremely disappointing, and unfortunately, I won’t...
