I had high hopes for Punto Gelato at Yonge & Eglinton — and to be fair, the ice cream itself was excellent. However, my overall experience was completely overshadowed by the rude and ignorant behavior of one of the staff members, a young lady with a Spanish-English accent who treated me with clear hostility.
Despite informing her that my dog is a certified service animal, she repeatedly questioned me, saying dogs are not allowed and where’s the “proof" even after I offered to show her the official letter. She clearly didn’t understand what a service animal is, and instead of approaching the situation respectfully, she began raising her voice at me in front of other customers and staff. It was embarrassing, humiliating, and frankly discriminatory.
Being yelled at in front of others and questioned about a disability, I felt completely disrespected and singled out. Her repeated claims that she's "a vet" made the situation even more bizarre. If you're a vet, why are you working at an ice cream shop — and more importantly, shouldn't you then understand what a service animal is?
This kind of treatment is unacceptable and needs to be addressed seriously by management. Until then, I won’t be returning, and I urge others who care about accessibility, inclusivity, and basic human decency to...
Read moreThis place is absolutely amazing and has what I feel is the best ice cream and gelato in the city. The chocolate with the hot peppers is phenomenal, as is the licorice, pistachio, the caramel oh, and I could go on and on. However in the midst of a pandemic, the employees are often serving food without having either gloves or masks. Even though their hands must be close enough to touch in order to give them the ice cream cones or the little bowls. So therefore the employers, by not providing and insisting on masks, are violating the the government directive to wear a mask when unable to socially distance.
I took a friend who absolutely loved the gelato, but she refuses to go back while covid is still in our city, because she said it was not safe.
It is the employer's responsibility to provide its staff with PPE and mandate that they wear it. It does not need to be an N95, as our govt has noted. There are plenty of wonderful masks that will do the trick. In fact just down the street at The Health Shoppe at St Clair & Young they have homemade masks for $8.95 that are cute and washable.
Once this is rectified I would give this five-stars. Their gelato is mouth-watering, innovative,...
Read moreHad a disappointing experience at this outlet of Punto Gelato.
Last Saturday, May 5th was the first time that I was visiting the outlet at Yonge and Davisville along with my friend.
There were a lot of flavours to choose from and the names of the various ice cream were not self explanatory. We were clearly spoilt for choice. We requested the server for describing the flavours and politely requested her to offer us samples for tasting. Note that only one of us was tasting them. After 2 samples the server refused to provide any more samples.
We were shocked to receive such a response as this has never been the case at other ice cream parlours that we had been to, in Canada as well as outside of Canada.
When we asked her the reason behind declining our request, the second server backed her up and rudely stated (read: interrupted) that this is a company policy and that their customers know exactly what they want to have! Those were her exact words!
This behaviour was not only rude but also insulting & unacceptable. We did buy ice-cream that day not to relish it but just to prove a point that we weren't free loaders.
I don't think we would be visiting Punto...
