Today was our second time celebrating family event with Georgian House and here is my fair review regarding our celebration. After visiting the place for the first we were quite impressed by the food portions, service, and hospitality. Please refer to my first review posted 1 month ago. This time we were celebrating with a group of 7 people. The food was pretty good although we noticed that the positions are getting smaller. We placed the order beforehand however the order of serving was different and we got the meat platter and khinkali served together although it was promised to be served by a Georgian tradition- after meat; everyone concentrated on meat first and of course the pastry cooled down and nobody wanted to have it as much. There is also the discrepancy on the website pricing and the real bill, eg. a popular eggplant roll is 15$ on the bill and 14$ on the website, and 3 compote jars out of 4 that we ordered were filled 3/4, I mean if they didn’t have enough to fill the jar properly, they could’ve offered us less but in a full size… a few dollars here and there but still unreliable fact. But the most outrageous thing is that they apply 18% gratuity to your 300-350$+ bill without letting you know beforehand and when I asked the server Georgii about the included gratuity, he laughed and said “have u never been to the restaurant before” - which was kinda not professional from his side. Also, we brought our own alcohol and they included double corking fee for the hard liquor which was 750 ml as the first fee is only for 500ml which they didn’t charge at our first visit. Overall, the place is worth trying for not more than 300$ if you prefer not to be ripped off by the...
Read moreI recently had the chance to try a Georgian meal for lunch with colleagues, and it was a delightful experience. While Georgian cuisine might be new to some (including myself), I can confidently say the food here was fantastic. Every dish was hearty, well-seasoned, and executed with care from start to finish. If you’ve ever thought Eastern European cuisine was boring, this place will definitely make you think twice. We ordered an array of dishes, including Traditional Georgian Salad, Stewed Beet Salad, Baked Mushrooms with Sulguni Cheese, Pork & Beef Khinkali, Chanakhi, Megruli Khachapuri, Pork & Beef Lula Kebab, and Chicken Shish Kebab. Each dish had its own unique character, and the standout for me was the way cheeses were used throughout the menu. The various tone of flavors and fragrances of the different cheeses added depth to every dish, from the salads to the Megruli Khachapuri (which might remind you of a cheese pizza at first glance). The kebabs were another highlight. Unlike the heavily spiced Middle Eastern versions common in Toronto, the Georgian kebabs were subtle and balanced. If I had to choose one style of kebab to enjoy forever, Georgian would win hands down. I also tried Nabeglavi sparkling water, and while it had a noticeably salty taste at first, reminiscent of natural mountain mineral water, it quickly grew on me. It was incredibly refreshing and complemented the meal perfectly. This small restaurant packs a surprising punch of flavor, and I can’t wait to return. If you’re looking to try something new and unforgettable, Georgian cuisine might just become your...
Read moreUnfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we’ve had in Toronto. The restaurant looks nice at first glance, but everything else went downhill from there.
Despite plenty of empty tables around, we were seated right between two other groups, with barely any space, which already felt very uncomfortable.
Then the service was completely chaotic: dishes were brought out one by one, with long gaps in between, and in a totally random order that made no sense. Some people received their food much earlier than others, and the grilled vegetables arrived about 10 minutes AFTER we had already finished eating. 🤦🏼♀️ The staff even brought someone else’s order to our table and only took it away after we told them it wasn’t ours.
The food itself was a big letdown. The lamb khinkali- one of the main dishes we were looking forward to, were absolutely flavorless. The broth inside (which is supposed to be the key part of a good khinkali) was basically just water, not real broth. The meat had no seasoning or aroma. The beef and pork khinkali were slightly better, but still nothing special. The grilled vegetables were burnt and had that unpleasant charred taste, the pumpkin soup tasted more like half&half - you could barely taste any pumpkin at all 🤔 just a bowl of milky liquid.
Overall, the food was bad, the service disorganized, and the whole experience just uncomfortable. We left really disappointed - definitely not the kind of place we’d recommend...
